Lords of Kevinswatch.

This idea was mentioned in the real estate thread. It came to mind after reading Fist and Faith's posts there. Anyway, I have a great idea for the Watch. Every month (or more), we vote for six lords. Every year we vote for a High Lord. There should only be 12 nominees for the position of Lord and perhaps the same for High Lord. We vote for one of these nominees (voting lasts a week maybe). Whoever is voted a Lord gets to have some unique and powerful items for their duration as Lord, as well as a title above their avatar showing their Lordly status. The High Lord gets the Staff of Law. (thanks to Fist and Faith for those item ideas)

To become a nominee you have to pay a large sum of white gold dollars.

I also think there should be other titles to vote for: Warmark, First Mark, Lore-Master (for the evil amongst us), Bloodguard, First of the Search, that sort of thing.

What do people think?

You don't vote for High Lords... They must be appointed by some cool sign (like some watery tart throwing a staff at you)...

Yes, good point. I had thought about the elected Lords voting for the High Lord, but I was concerned most would feel they had a right to elect the High Lord. However, your suggestions makes more sense. As for my suggestion of whit gold dollars being spent to make one a nominee, well I have thought about that. Perhaps Vain or Jay elect the nominees from excellence in posting (which pretty much precludes me! ;) )

Guys, I hate to burst ur bubble but those titles are already in place--i.e I am not called Lord-of Neverness 4 no reason--technically all moderators are Lords (or potential Lords)--if u click Sky's, my or all moderators names of the intro Forums u will see "Lord" under our Avs. The main forum moderators have fought long and hard 4 such titles--Hearthcoal, Sky and I, for instance, have been on this board since it's creation. Jay has been High Lord since day one. I for 1 would be very reluctant to give up my title. I don't feel brand new mods should b automatically made Lords-rather Loresraat students or something to that ilk-but as it now stands any member who's name appears in green IS a Lord (or a potential Lord).

hmmm... ok, here's what I think, regarding Lords and High Lords...

I don't see a reason to limit the number of Lords. My idea would be that anyone who chooses, Haruchai, Giant, or ur-vile, among others, as their Race/Being can't be a Lord. We each choose what type of being we want to be - whatever we best love about TCTC - and certain beings simply were not Lords.

But anyone who chooses to be a Stonedowner or Woodelvennin (Others? Could it be that Kevin had a Ramen Lord? Maybe Agdy knows.:)) can be a Lord. The New Lords had to demonstrate proficiency in sword and staff to become a Lord. At the moment, I can't think of anything we should make members demonstrate to become a Lord. So maybe Lord is just one of the choices we get to choose from for the Calling field. (Other choices would be Unfettered, Gravelingas, Lorewarden, etc.)

--Of course, if you choose Forestal for the Race/Being field, your Calling is already chosen for you. If you're an Elohim, you are either just a plain Elohim for the Calling, or, if you're the tragic sort, Appointed. --

From among the many who chose Lord, the other Lords choose a High Lord. I think I'd also do it every 6 months. I've been a member for what seems like forever (in a good way!!!), but it's only been a 13 months!

danlo, I don't think this should change the type of Lord you're talking about. That's the title of a member here with certain functions and abilities, and only shows up when you hit Profile. But anybody can change their current Title field to say Lord of Neverness, as I just did. (Don't worry, I'll change it back today. :)) In these threads, we're just talking about having fun and all that. :D

So speaking of fun--should I or Sky, i.e. b forced to give up our "fun titles" so that Lord automatically appears? Well u're no fun! I wasn't trying to b a grump--just telling u how it is. I realize I am merely Ur-vile fodder now (compared to the likes of U!) :D --but we helped build this damm board!

No believe it or not I understand ur point and am attempting to futher discussion on this worthwhile issue--however I do feel the Jay is High Lord, period and that this shouldn't be belittled at all...

(btw, smartypants, since u r a mod at the Hangar ur title is correct: u are a Lord of Neverness--u can keep it if u want as I was thinking of changing 2 The Timekeeper, anyway... :| )

*sigh* I wish I had an answer. Should my plan be restricted to things like Race, Location, and Tools/Weapons? Because that's where the real problem lies. Newbies have very little chance of getting certain items. Nobody but Lord Mhoram will ever live in Revelstone, nobody but you will ever be in Revelwood. Unless you guys give them up at some point, at which point only one other person will be there. Heck, you're one of those who was so upset about WGD's in the first place, so you know there's a problem with buying these things. But maybe I've gone too far in my "solution." Sure, why the heck not have a Haruchai Lord if someone wants to be one! :D These threads are just refining these ideas, neh? We'll work it all out!

And yeah, High Lord Jay as permanent would be fine with me too.

And if you want to be that manipulative, nasty Timekeeper, you go right ahead!!! :x
:LOLS:

I guess there could be 8 or ten other "Lords" on a rotating basis. And if u're, say, a student of the Loresraat u'd automatically be living in Revelwood, there are lots of other titles available-Gravelingas, Hirebrand, Cord, First, Manethrall, First Mark, Warhaft, Warmark, Appointed, na-Mhoram (and all it's degrees), Hearthall (2 types) etc...etc... Marks, Hearthalls etc... would be living in Revelstone anyway...as would Bloodguard.

I think Vain is going to do something like even the playing field as far as WGDs are concerned soon, I think--he could also do the same thing with everything we possess--every year or so... :? (I'm just worried about the post wars and trivial posts that result re: such a pursuit of WGDs to get 2 said items 1st...)

Well, now you've got me thinking in the opposite direction! :LOLS: I think a member can be of any Race/Being, any Calling, and live anywhere they want. Yes, I think it would be silly to be a Forestal Manethrall living on Skyweir, but if that's what you want...

Though I'll tell you, if a Raver tries to take up residence in the One Forest, Taiga's likely to become unpleasant. More than somewhat. But I'll do what I can to keep the peace.

It sounds like a great idea ur-vile... except for 1 fatal flaw... I'm the warmark, I have always been the warmark, I always will be the warmark (until I decide to change)!!!

All I want to say is that very few people seem to be seriously discussing The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant right about now. Isn't that the reason we came here?

Now after the previous post I read that SRD is considering linking to us.
Think about it.

not all mods are turned into lords danlo. only those of the major forums. Me and most other mods are still servants of the land. (Darth Revan is drool Rockworms servant)

Matrixman wrote:I know Fist&Faith is trying to create fun things for members to do
Technically, Vain created some fun things that, unfortunately, had aspects that have bothered many people, both members who were here when Vain implemented them and members who came along much later. I'm just trying to see if the great aspects of Vain's ideas can be used in ways that people don't get upset about. Unfortunately, my efforts also seem to be leading to more upset, so I'll stop. I'll just go along with whatever system is in place. I'm 8) :D
Matrixman wrote:And besides, the Watch is a discussion forum, not a role-playing game site, right? Perhaps if we want to have serious RPG-style fun, someone should create a distinct RPG "realm" within Kevin's Watch separate from the discussion board itself. There we can fight over money and power with gleeful abandon. :D
Sevothtarte!!!!! Where are you???? :( :(
