Nom would immediately begin to throw up a rude structure out of rocks, trees and the like until he'd driven you to your balloons maximum elevation - then the said pummelling would occur. Or he might tear the very fabric of space-time until he had pulled you down within reach. He might even do that Superman thing where he crouches down and little waves appear in the dust around his blunt ending fists before launching himself upward (I'm thinking here that with his backward jointed legs he might be able to pull that flea trick of racking up muscle tension like a spring loaded gun before releasing it all in one explosive burst of thrust!)
