Guardians of the Galaxy 2

The trailer for the second installment of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise has been released. It is reasonably short for a trailer and doesn't really give us much other than slow-motion shots of the central cast--Quill, Gamora, Drax, Rocket, Baby Groot, Yondu, and Nebula--with "Hooked on a Feeling" playing in the background.
Not much of the plot is known at this time, unless you are one of those people who scour every movie-related news feed coming out of Hollywood (which I am not), but we do know that Quill's father gets revealed. Sylvester Stallone is in the movie but his character is currently unlisted, Glenn Close is back as Nova Prime, but there is no Collector. That last one is odd because he really wants the Orb and he knows that the Guardians were the last ones to have it in their possession--he isn't going to give up on obtaining it just because Carina blew up the Collection.
I am really looking forward to this move. The first one was the second-highest grossing movie of 2014, beaten only by Winter Soldier, but it did have the best soundtrack. Let us hope that James Gunn doesn't disappoint us.

The trailer is more than a teaser but less than a typical official trailer. Frankly I can't wait for GOTG 2. Now I can't help the compulsion to load the first film in the blu ray this weekend.
On a related topic critics are beginning to see screenings of Dr. Strange and the first few are very positive. There is only a few weeks left before DS premiers and I will be there.

From the last I heard, release date for GOTG was set for May 17th 2017.

I don't watch football so I missed the latest trailer which debuted during the Super Bowl.
Only 3 months to go.

Last weekend was the international opening; the movie grossed $106 million. Opening this weekend in over 4300 theaters (10th-largest opening of all time, according to movie statistics); some theaters started "midnight" screenings at 7pm Thursday while many had double-headers--Guardians followed by Guardians 2. Most insiders expect an opening weekend of about $150 million and the movie is definitely expected to gross over $1 billion for this year.
Guardians 2 is the official start of the summer blockbuster season, by the way.
We won't be able to make it to the theater until Sunday afternoon.

Saw it with the kids last night at a 7PM showing. No spoilers, but we enjoyed it greatly.
On a side note, it was fun to see Sylvester Stallone and Kurt Russell in a film together again. Not, of course, that this became an intergalactic Tango and Cash...
Enjoy the show!

I'd pay good money to see
Tango & Cash in Space.

Are there really 4 or 5 in-credit scenes?

Yeah, there are loads of them. The credits are mildly interesting to keep you hooked, but I only sat through it because my row was blocked. The very last scene in the credits was the worst and most pointless one, so really worth the wait...
The film overall was good, though.

Yep, sure are. And they are fun!

Excellent.
Guardians 2 racked up $17 million for its Thursday night openings, ahead of Logan but not quite up to the level of Age of Ultron or Civil War (both of which scored over $20 million on opening Thursday).

As expected, GotG2 racked up about $146 million for its opening weekend.
We saw it on Sunday. It isn't as lighthearted and fun as the first one but the screenplay writers did give us a little more insight into the characters and they get to deal with some problems of a more personal nature. Some of the gags were pretty funny, though--they had to keep that sort of stuff in the movie. Still, it is always interesting how a few lines of dialog can reframe a character.
Actually, the very last credit scene is based on a long-standing Internet theory which I cannot divulge lest I spoil the scene.

GOTG2 was as enjoyable as I was hoping. Solid second outing. It may not have exceeded the first film but it didn't disappoint.

From Wiki:
"Various members of the original Guardians of the Galaxy team are featured in the film Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, including Michael Rooker as Yondu Udonta, Sylvester Stallone as Stakar Ogord, Michael Rosenbaum as Martinex T'Naga, Ving Rhames as Charlie-27, Michelle Yeoh as Aleta Ogord, Krugarr and an uncredited Miley Cyrus as the voice of Mainframe."
I caught Martinex and Charlie but missed Starhawk and Aleta. I thought I saw a few characters that could possibly be Nikki but I guess not.

I saw Vol 2 on Father's Day.
Needless to say, that added an element of weird.
Very good movie.
But I cannot get Wham Bam Shang-A-Lang out of my head now.

Henceforth GOTG2 will become a traditional Sci Fi Father's Day film along with Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.
As an example you see the actions of a good father and a bad one in the midst of exciting intergalactic shenanigans.
Sounds like a perfect Father's Day to me.

Need to add Hulk (2003), Tron: Legacy, and Maggie.

Why not add Taken, Commando, True Lies, Jingle All The Way and Live Free Or Die Hard?

Pretty convenient for your Dad to be an action hero when you are in a scrape.
