All in the Family

My favorite sitcom, and probably the best one ever, if you ask me. Hmm, guess I'm done talking.

Boy the way Glen Miller played
Songs that made the hit parade.
Guys like us we had it made,
Those were the days.

And you knew who you were then,
Girls were girls and men were men,
Mister we could use a man
Like Herbert Hoover again.

Didn’t need no welfare state,
Everybody pulled his weight.
Gee our old LaSalle ran great.
Those were the days.

I felt sorry for this post... sitting here all alone... no posts deserve to be alone... No matter what crap programs they say they like...

Whoa, you're calling All in the Family crap? It single-handedly changed television forever--sitcoms, at least. There'd be no Simpsons or anything controversial or edgy or realistic. I think it's sad when a thread about "who's your favorite Friend" gets more posts. Pathetic. People just aren't cultured anymore.

I was only saying that for a joke... I haven't even watched it... or heard of it...

Well maybe only America has it, but it shows on the TV Land channel. It's a 70s sitcom.

All in the Family was one of those programs that I watched as a kid only because my parents were watching it. At the time I didn't appreciate the importance it played in shaping the future of television. I do now. It is one of the best ever aired.

I think I actually saw the pilot episode on TV a bunch of years back... or maybe it was a flashback episode, at any rate it was the first meeting of Archie and his future son-in-law. It had at least one line that stayed with me, in the genre of Brilliantly Irrelevant Insults:
Sticks and stones may break my bones... but you're one stupid Pole.

Hummph. Reminds me of a co-worker. He had no idea who Steve McQueen was.

Time indeed does march on.

All In The Family - is arguably the best TV sitcom ever. Unlike Seinfeld it was about something.

I know a girl who didn't know who Marlon Brando was. She was a cheerleader, though. Figures. I met a guy once who hadn't seen Taxi Driver. In fact, this guy, much to his detriment, went on to state that his favorite war movie was Pearl Harbor and that A Walk To Remember was a good movie. Sick, sad world we live in.

Actually, Theo, to be precise (I think) it was:
Sticks and stones may break my bones, but you are one dumb Polack.
However, that wasn't from the flashback of their first meeting. The flashback had them arguing over the national anthem, after Meathead said, "That's one dumb song." At one point, Archie says that he loves this country, Meathead says something like "I love it too! And that's why I want to point out when things need to be fixed." And then Archie starts quoting God Bless America, and ends it with:
...white with foam
God bless America
you dumb Polack
my home sweet home
At which point Meathead starts screaming "You're prejudiced! You're prejudiced!" as though Archie would understand the insult of that.

And, of course, there's the time Archie said, "Why don't you take a running jump into the middle of Lake Polack."

All in the Family is at or near the top of TV History. :)
