American Fable

Saw this strange little number from director Anne Hamilton last night, in which the excellent Peyton Kennedy plays an 11y.o. girl torn between loyalty to her family and a prisoner she finds being held in a local grain silo. Wandering into the realm of fantasy, the film becomes almost painful to watch as the girl becomes increasingly horrified at what is being perpetrated, and it builds to a climax that is both thrilling and heart wrenching in equal measure. It's not a big screen film, but it packs a punch and is quality fare in a year not too liberally sprinkled with gems.
