Murder on the Orient Express

Kenneth Brannagh's latest offering (Directed by Kenneth Brannagh and starring Kenneth Brannagh) features Kenneth Brannagh as the mustachiod sleuth snow-bound on the eponymous train as murther most foul and other nerfarious goings on go on all around him. Like a modern day minimum wage worker, all the poor guy wants to do is get a couple of days break, but instead the (metaphorical) phone keeps ringing and they keep calling him in to work.
This film is never going to net KB any Oscars; it ain't Shakespeare and it ain't deep art - but nevertheless it's good solid old fashioned fun and I for one will happily cough up my buck again for the next (Nile) installment when it duly arrives on our screens.

The wife and I thought about going to see this--we both read the Christie novel eons ago--but the kids definitely won't be interested. Unfortunately, it releases the same weekend as Justice League so it probably won't be in theaters for three weeks before being pulled due to poor ticket sales. *shrug*

So, what, does every adaptation of this book end with someone different being the murderer, so as to make it a surprise?
I don't understand the attraction to this book that it is adapted so many times. It does look like some good, old fashion character-driven movie, though, so I am not saying it's bad. I just don't understand they why of it.
Too bad Johnny Depp is in it. He'll phone it in.

My lost post went into this in some depth; basically, those of us still familiar with the seventies version (very successful at the time) can still take much pleasure from the beautifully shot scenery and cityscapes of the film, and to see another rendition of Poirot, with all of his idiosyncrasies and eccentricities is almost the whole point of the remake - a bit like a Sherlock Holmes film. Brannagh pulls it of well and the rest of the pretty high profile cast, though never stretched, all perform well. Depp even manages to look ugly! Well worth a look if you get the chance.

My familiy and I enjoyed this, although we all came out saying that we'll have to watch it with subtitles, because KB's accent makes his dialogue difficult.

MOTOE is traditionally followed by an outing of DOTN. It was strongly hinted at the end of the film that this would be the case.

Just watched this yesterday, was good enough for me to be willing to watch the next one. (Spotted the setup for Death on the Nile.
)
Ridiculous as I found his moustache, it does actually seem to be pretty accurate according to the books, where it is variously described (as he becomes more and more famous), as gigantic, immense, and amazing, and in the Orient Express he was described as "a little man with enormous moustaches."
So, good on them I guess.
