That sucks. Hope you feel better soon. Flu is going around at work - actually went after work to get my flu shot (which I've already put off longer than I should have - usually get it in late October) - but was told to come back in an hour because all the shot-givers were on break. So I'll have to go back tomorrow, which should work better since I work later tomorrow, but I wasted over an hour on the trip today, which I'm a little annoyed about. (Why send them all to break at once? How is that a good way to run any sort of business?)

Oh, a change is coming, feel these doors now closing
Is there no world for tomorrow, if we wait for today?

But...............that's how they put the tracking chip in you. I hope you didn't go back.

It's not tomorrow yet. Unfortunately. I'm over this week in general.

Anyone tracking me would get bored pretty quickly.

 I got a flu shot once...it made me a lot sicker than the flu ever did, so I don't bother any more.

Thursday. 1 week and 1 day until I'm on leave. Roll on.

On the down-side, periodontist appointment today. On the up-side, leaving work early for it. :D

If I've ever had the flu I'm not aware of it, only colds. Always found it a bit odd that in the US everyone's expected to get the flu shot, while over here it's only recommended for vulnerable groups like children, pregnant people and the elderly.

I'd say that I rarely get sick - (it's true, but I don't want to jinx myself) - but on the other hand, I have autoimmune issues, and the medication I take to keep my immune system from declaring civil war raises the odds that getting the flu would be a Very Bad Thing. About 50% of the time I make it through the year with no flu. The other 50%, I generally don't get it as bad as most people at work seem to. I don't know how much credit the shot gets in all of that, but I'm not going to risk skipping it.

I'll second that sentiment.

I couldn't sleep last night because I had an obnoxious Christmas song stuck in my head too loudly. Apparently that is a thing. I tried to visualize putting duct tape over the mouth of my subconscious, but apparently my subconscious doesn't have a mouth. Or a mute button.

This is a new (at least to me) song, and it's apparently about a donkey. The only lyrics I know are nonsense words and donkey noises. It's utterly diabolical, and that's not a word I use every day.

That sounds like fun. [/sarc]

Monday...I'm actually less upset by this fact than usual...this being my last week at work before a good long holiday.

I've had a repeating medley of jingle bells and deck the halls playing in the background of my thoughts for at least a week. :-)

Lots of short weeks this month. πŸŽ…πŸŽ…πŸŽ…πŸŽ…πŸŽ„πŸŽ„πŸ˜πŸŽ„πŸŽ„

Santa Baby is in fourth place this year. Really didn't think anything could be more obnoxious, but no less than three songs have topped it this year.

1. The Donkey Song (probably not the actual name)
2. Some song about a lady who wants Santa to bring her a lot of money. She actually manages to be more annoying than Santa Baby Lady.
3. Some guy who thinks reindeers is the plural of reindeer. No. Now shut up.

Current antidote: Tom Waits.

I've been wondering for a long time:
1) Are there ANY great xmas songs?
----and my answer is "in a way" because I then ask---
2) Are they great BECAUSE they are specifically/inseparably xmas tunes?
---which makes my answer fuck no.
though there are some that are pleasant/enjoyable for various reasons/times short of OVERPLAYED {I want a Hippopotamus for Christmas} , there aren't any that are great music + great lyrics + inherently xmas subject and theme in which all three parts enhance each other non-linearly.
[[for example..."Little Drummer Boy", which I like---most of the reasons I like it are entangled with the reasons I like "White Rabbit" and, in some ways, "Dogs" "Personal Jesus" "The Entertainer," etc etc.

the hyperbole is a beauty...for we are then allowed to say a little more than the truth...and language is more efficient when it goes beyond reality than when it stops short of it.

Most of the commercial stuff makes me want to drive a screwdriver through my eardrum, but if one must listen to Christmas music, decent stuff does exist. The Chieftains have an album called The Bells of Dublin, which is what I would pick if someone forced me to name a favorite Christmas album. Great Big Sea has a song called Come And I Will Sing You that I actually really like.

Maybe I just like Irish Christmas music?

Yeah, no. No Christmas music.

Been raining continuously for the last couple days now, which is great. Also, only today and 1 and a half more work days before I'm on leave.

Things are starting to slow down a bit here, since most of the country shuts down over the 2nd half of December anyway, so boring and slow for them most part, except for the crises of course. :D

This is my favorite rendition of what is probably my favorite Christmas tune, and it does check that list of great music and great lyrics.

Merry Christmas From The Family - Jill Sobule

I believe it is originally a Robert Earl Keen song.
