Netflix's new offering of this straight to TV fantasy starring Will Smith has been viewed massively over the Christmas period and if translated into a theatrical debut would equate to 98.2 million dollars. I've not seen it yet, but will do shortly, and am looking forward to it quite a bit. It hasn't been well received by the critics, but the people I know who've seen it have all really enjoyed it. More interesting perhaps is that I wonder if we approaching a tipping point where this straight to network prior to theatrical release (as per Agatha Christie's The Crooked House) or even eschewing the cinema all together will become the norm?

It's a movie? Thought it was a series. Shoulda been a series.

The concept is heavily retread, but has an identity politics overtone I think, which isn't very new either. Still, Smith doesn't seem like he would throw his career over a cliff, so maybe. I see a very narrow path for this which avoids being either offensive or trite.

I saw Bright a couple of days ago. It was enjoyable if predictable. The premise reminded me of Alien Nation to some degree.

Would have watched it tonight but both me and Mrs P are screwed up with a serious flu bug. Hence early night and shit loads of over the counter remedies. Maybe tomorrow.

There really wasn't anything surprising here--cop buddy movie meets crime drama meets Maltese Falcon (everyone wants the McGuffin)--but I do like how they were able to work the fantasy races into a "real" world.

The next movie has already received the green light. I concur with wayfriend--this would make a good series. The only problem with converting the show to series format is that Will Smith probably wouldn't be in it.

All things considered, if you haven't seen it then I recommend seeing it.

Saw it last night, but alas it just didn't do it for me. It had a really thrown together feel in my book and there was nothing that would draw me back either for a second film or a series. Sorry guy's - it's a
