SOLO - A STAR WARS STORY

Saw Solo over the weekend and really enjoyed it.
I didn't leave the theater scratching my head trying to understand why what just happened, happened the way it did like with the Last Jedi.
I didn't leave the theater annoyed that half the film was clearly geared for 6 year old kids like Return of the Jedi.

So overall I liked Solo more than at least 5 other Star Wars films.

My guess is that the films box office has been impacted by some of the negative fan reaction from The Last Jedi and competition from Infinity War and Deadpool.

And the fact that we didn't really need this story told has something to do with it, but I also felt like it was much better than I thought it would be.
I was a bit surprised by something that those who watched Clone Wars and Rebels would know, but would leave the rest of the people confused, mainly because I thought they were not going to include Star Wars TV shows into the plot of movies, but I think I am misremembering with the Marvel superhero universe.

Still haven't even watched Last Jedi. :D Only watched Rogue One recently. :D I'll probably get to it eventually. No rush.

I'm in the "no rush" camp too.
I really need to see Jedi/Sith on the screen.
To me, everything else is just filler.

I watched the movie this week as well. I enjoyed it, even more than "the last Jedi'.

There was action, adventure, intrigue, ships blowing up, blasters.... just good ol' fun.

Wondered what was the metal-dice link to the Last Jedi movie? A Millenium Falcon thing, I guess.
(What the frak was coaxium doing in Rey/Leias' homing device!)

Will have to wait for the DVD for a closer look.

Definitely a fun movie. :)

Yeah, I just gotta say I'm annoyed with that bit of fan service, and how it turned into a such a big thing.
Here's an article about it:

https://nerdist.com/the-last-jedi-gold- ... star-wars/

I've known about it for, crap, nearly 40 years now, but never really went looking for it. It was always one of those things that you are supposed to watch for, like the person who hung themselves in Wizard of Oz or the cameo from Peter Jackson and his kids in his movies, particularly LOTR and Hobbit films. But I never cared enough to look.

Thanks for the info.
They are given some importance in the Hans Solo film.
Spoiler
The last item seen on screen as the Falcon jumps into hyperspace.

In the Last Jedi they also have some importance in explaining the Jedi Master's ability to do remote projection.
How they tie together across the different realms I haven't the foggiest. But will have fun in finding out.

I was never a Star Wars fan. Not until I began studying electronics. To an enthusiast Star Wars is treasure house of imaginative circuitry. I could spend hours freeze framing scenes just to get a closer look at the otherworldly wires and components. Like Decker in Blade Runner, without the - "track" "right" "centre" and "stop" voice controlled coms - of course.

Solo made the list of "top 10 biggest flops of 2018".

I still haven't seen it.

It wasn't a flop. You can't even say it didn't live up to the hype. It just didn't live up to fans desires to make Star Wars be more than an action movie. And there's fatigue. What people don't know is the real motive is promoting Star Wars theme parks.

I am not the one who was claiming that it was a flop. The morning radio station was reading some movie critics list on the air and that person is the one who called it a flop.

I do plan on getting around to seeing it at some point; I am merely uncertain as to when that will occur.

Oh, here's this thread. I was looking for it in the Star Wars forum.

Watched this over the weekend for the first time, and remarkably, didn't hate it.

The young Han was pretty good if you kept your eyes closed. He had the attitude and the speech mannerisms down.

Even the GF enjoyed it, and she's not a Star Wars fan, so that probably says something.

Like Rogue One, better than I expected.

(Should we move this to the Star Wars forum? (Who's the mod in here anyway? :D)

Not it. :D

Yeah, I really think this movie got a bad rap. It may be my favorite of the fan fic movies of late. It's weird. After the prequels, I never thought I'd miss Lucas. But I definitely miss his sensibilities. I honestly think he should write the scripts, have someone capable hone them into something serviceable, and someone else definitely direct. He lucked out with the first Star Wars movie, and passed the second one on to a capable director. Best thing he ever did. I still argue that ROTJ is bungled, but ok.
I did hear that Lucas does have his fingers in a bit of the creation for Episode 9: Skywalker Comes Alive! Oh, sorry, I got that confused with a Frampton album. But yeah, I will again get my hopes up for this movie, and will be disappointed. I already don't like the Emperor coming back into it.

Oooooooooooooooooo...unless they tie it into Rebels and that weird time crystal chamber freakout thing that saved Ahsoka....hmmmmmmmmm
