I haven't started watching this yet. But if anyone has, I hope you'll pass along your opinion. I know that there's lots of King fans around. I have seem some good reviews, and some that went 'meh'. So I am not sure what to expect.

Kind of excited because this was primarily filmed a few towns over from where I live, and some of it in my very town. I can get you a Castle Rock t-shirt, I think.

Apparently, J J Abrams will now corrupt and destroy Stephen King.

Sure. Why not?

Watched the first 3 episodes, and gotta say it's looking promising.

Most of the action is happening around the Shawshank Penitentiary, and there are some nice (but subtle) call-backs to previous Castle Rock stories, like Cujo and Needful Things.

And old and retired Alan Pangborn is featuring relatively, but not extremely, prominently.

Think it will be good. Hopefully.

Me, too!

It really is a slow burner. Some people enjoy that, some don't, I guess.

A lot of reviews were made after viewing for or five episodes. But I did read this, from Rolling Stone:

By the time we get to the seventh episode - a Ruth spotlight, directed by Emmy winner Greg Yaitanes (House, Banshee), that's one of the cleverest, saddest, best hours of TV this year - the series has fully come into its own, and the King allusions turn into treats for those who recognize them rather than distracting reminders of classics this newcomer can't hope to live up to.

So I will wait patiently and see.

Watched Episode 4 last night and still enjoying it. I noticed The Mellow Tiger in an earlier episode, and was interesting to see it feature in E04.

Watched the first two last night, and it sure looks promising. And it's great seeing Scott Glenn in anything.

Bit disappointed by E07, felt confused and a bit boring, but it happens...

Its not on FOXTEL so is it a NETFLIX show?

Episodes 6, 7, and 8 really pulled the series together and gave it a, "whoa...."

And I really need to re-read The Dark Half apparently.

Did I miss a Dark Half reference? (Not my favourite of his books TBH.)

Alan Pangborn was the Sheriff of Castle Rock during the exciting times of Dark Half and Needful Things. I don't see much more of a connection than that. His romance/marriage with Polly Chalmers in the latter book seems to have been retconned away.

Perhaps it's been too long since I read it, but pretty much the entire makeup of The Kid seems to track with the book, as do the birds.
