P.Ink (Personal Ink) is an organization which organizes decorative tattoos to cover masectomy and reconstructive surgery scars for free once a year in various cities.

Here's the information for any of my friends also considering having this done. I'm at least a couple of years out, as you have to be at least a year post reconstruction, and I have yet to have my surgery due to weight limits. Getting closer, though!

In the meantime, I contacted the local group here, asking how I can volunteer to help. Maybe others would be interested in helping out their local groups for P.Ink Day 2018 and forward.

Washington state held its P.Ink Day this past Sunday, at the Fairfield Inn and Suites in Bremerton. My job was to collect donations for goodie bags for the survivors at the event, and to offer support and a hand to hold during the event. It was an incredible experience to support these 14 survivors, and I look forward to doing it again next year.

The survivors all signed releases for the videos to be shared, and the overall attitude was, "they're not real anyway, and the artwork is meant to be beautiful and seen by those who wish to see it." So, a warning that there is frontal upper body nudity in these videos, and as such, may not be safe for work.

I understand completely if these need to be deleted. But, if allowed, thought I would share an incredible experience. If photos or videos of the completed artwork become available, I'll share those as well.

Boy, the power of positive thinking...

Here are the professional photos of the artwork in progress, and of finished results. Again, frontal nudity is displayed, so this site may not be safe for work. And I completely understand if this will need to be deleted.

The 2019 edition of the Greater Seattle area P.Ink Day was held this past Saturday. The supervising national agency changed this year, so our event was cut back quite a bit. Instead of 17 Thrivers, this year we were only able to apply artwork to 5 Thrivers.

We had a professional photographer at the event, but she didn't show up until about halfway through, and I have yet to see her photos. So, while my phone is an older Samsung Galaxy S5, I was asked to take photos. Again, they were shared on Facebook, but the settings on my page are public, so hopefully y'all can see them.

Like last year, frontal nudity is prominent. So, these photos are probably NSFW.

Pity they could only do 5. Was that because of lack of funding? Could you not reach out to artists and ask them if they'd donate their time?

Neither!

Our local coordinator had 17 artists willing to donate their time and materials. She said we had 23 Thrivers apply. What happened is P.Ink was absorbed by an overseeing organization called F*ck Cancer. They're the ones who put limits on our event. Their reasoning was that they wanted the Thrivers across the country to all have the same "intimate" experience, and not all the communities could do more than 5 in one day. So, they limited us to only 5.

Our coordinator is hoping they'll lift the restriction next year, but if not, she's thinking of starting her own non-profit to do the same thing. I think she'll do both, organize the local P.Ink Day event, since it is currently more well known, but also run a separate event for more Thrivers.

We'll see how it all goes down.

Yeah, that sounds good. Can tell the people who applied that even if they not in the 5, they can come to the other group to still have it done.
