I was talking recently about a bar I was in in Nepal where the bar staff served from a 'well' that was so low that you could see the tops of their heads as they prepared your drinks and handed them up to you. Pretty bad, but (terribly I grant) you sort of excuse it because it's in a country far removed from western liberal democracy and the way we expect our employers to behave. But how about this practice, that was carried out by a telesales company in the very town I live in. The adrenaline fueled atmosphere of an outbound call center, where competition between employees to garner the most sales is actively used as a tool to push profits, is no place for the faint hearted. Those with high sales are showered with gifts, up to and including freebe holidays abroad those at the bottom each month take 'the walk of Shame' - ritually called from the sales floor to the managers office, returned to their desk to collect their belongings and then escorted from the building, their employment terminated. In between these positions, however additional, more 'subtle' judges were used to cajole (bully?) the best out of the sales team. Chair size was one of the most notorious. The company had a range of different chair types which were allocated to staff according to their recent sales record. Those at the top were given soft leather revolving recliners to luxuriate in while those at the bottom received little more than a shooting stick to perch on.

Sorry guys - something went wrong here; the above was supposed to be a new thread on employer humiliation of employees!

Sounds pretty crap if Im honest .. I never prescribed to these toxic management styles .. I believe if you appreciate your staff.. even a little .. theyll do anything for you, Overtime, push deadlines.
People respond better, are far more productive and staff retention is higher where they feel appreciated, fuck even acknowledged and if they feel secure.
Bad managers and bad workplaces employ methods like this .. they foster toxic work culture with all its incumbent problems, stress leave applications, instability in the work place, pushback, in fact increased sick leave days etc.
Its counterproductive to treat staff like shit. Serves no one but those getting their rocks off doing it.

Fully!
It's a real skill in itself (and I've seen it done numerous times), turning good employees into bad ones by shit management and actively fostering the 'us and them' mentality that gets no-one anywhere. Respect in a work place is a two way street.

Raccoon dogs! Well, what next? I have heard of strange doings in this land,
but I have seldom heard of raccoon dogs. Two of them!
There's something mighty queer behind this.
UPDATED: Saturday, June 1, 2019 10:31 am:
Escaped raccoon dogs captured in Nottinghamshire
And that, as they say, is that.

A boy on a unicorn float drifted half a mile out to sea in North Carolina
Okay, not good for the boy, of course. But a good story for parents everywhere.
"Get off that! You'll drift out to sea, and then what?"
