I've seen various pics from these movies over the years (I even have a photo book of The Fellowship from when I was a kid) but I've never seen them.
You can view or even download them from here.

I'm downloading them all as I type.
If you want to as well, scroll down a little after clicking the link and look to the box on the right that says "download options"
I wanted the 6 files in MP4 format so I clicked H.264 then I clicked "6 files" to the right to download them all.

It's not 100% true to the books but better than the latest movies bay far in that regard.

I own the Bakshi LOTR movie and the Rankin-Bass The Hobbit. In their day they were the cat's pajamas. (We used to talk like that in the old days.) Now I care for them less. But they still have a few gems worth seeing.

And I was a member of the fan club for the '77 movie. I still have a bunch of stuff. Including the promotional magazine.

This is the photo book of which you speak? Cuz this is what I have.

This scene is oddly satisfying.

I've been watching these all morning all morning.
I really enjoy them.
That scene, I read that the horses and riders were real.
They were filmed and then animated over somehow? I like the effect.

And.....I can't find the movie book I mentioned earlier.
It's buried somewhere.
It wasn't what you posted though...I think.
The cover doesn't ring any bells although maybe.
It's small, maybe 6" by 5". All color pics from the Fellowship movie.

"Posterization". It's debatable whether it is artistic or just cheap. That movie had budget problems like nobody's business.

Did it say 'fotobook' on the cover?

.........

While I was searching for HLT's book, I came across this:

Lost Bakshi Lord of the Rings footage found

It's mostly about Gandalf's fight with the Balrog. Nothing that would probably interest anyone. :)

I finally played the movies that I downloaded in a zip file.
It's not 6 movies. Just 4. Two are duplicates but different file sizes.

"Lord of the Rings (1978)" is the unfinished Bakshi one.

"Return of the King (1980)" is pretty bad. Gollum is a fat frog like thing. :D
Animation reminds me of Christmas cartoons (but not the Baskin Ross ones)

"The desolation of Smaug" video is absolutely horrible....won't even describe it. :D

"The Hobbit (1977)" Gollum is a green frog again. It's watchable though but probably for me because I had the picture book version of this when I was a kid.

These two are dupes:
"Lord of the Rings (1978)"
"Return of the King (1980)"

This was a staple of my childhood, which did not include video on demand or video rentals or even cable TV. You had to stumble upon this when it was broadcast, which was usually around Thanksgiving time. So I have a fondness for it. I now own the DVD. Like the other movies, there are a few odd gems that can be found in it.
