The Mandalorian

Got Disney+ yesterday and the first thing I watched was the inaugural episode of the Mandalorian.
First impressions are very positive. Decent acting, film quality special effects and an engaging premise. There is an obvious dedication to call back to past Star Wars settings, technology and characters which is a bit heavy handed but appreciated. The second episode is available in a couple of days and I am looking forward to it.
So far so good.

Did Mandalorians ever feature in any of the movies? I only know them from KotOR I think...amybe some extended universe novels.

Haha, I meant was it ever specified that Boba Fett was Madalorian?

Watched the first episode, and didn't hate it. :D Definite callback to the original trilogy in terms of effects etc.

Liked it enough to watch the 2nd episode...still don't hate it, not sure about the force sensitive baby "Yoda."

The obvious outcome seems a bit trite...

Movies? No, other than the obvious. My memory is bad for this, but I know there was a big story arc within the show Rebels that had a lot to do with Mandalorians, but may have been started in Clone Wars. As I binged Clone Wars around season 2 of Rebels, I can't always tell which storylines belonged to what.

So far I am definitely digging this show. Clint Eastwood spaghetti western feel with expanding out the universe a bit more. We finally got to see an IG-XX bounty hunter droid in action, found we know so little about Yoda, such as his species name, that Jawas are bad-asses when messed with, what the look of a disintegration looks like when Vader said to Boba Fett in Empire, "...and no disintegrations!", as well as a feast of other bits and pieces. And they are very spare on dialogue, which my daughter doesn't like, but I find refreshing that characters only speak when they need to.

Sort of. He wore Mandalorian armor, but the Mandalorians themselves disavowed him. But, Mandalorians wouldn't be in Star Wars if the character had never been created. So, it's a little messy.

As with many things. :D (I think my point is that it wasn't Mandalorian armour when we first saw it, because we didn't know there were Mandalorians. :D )

Three chapters in, and I'm really hooked on this show.

Same here.
This series is the most Star Wars Star Wars I have seen since 1983.

Still watching. 3 was a bit predictable, except the rest of the Mandalorians turning up to save him. Wondering where the series is going to go now?

(Anybody know how many episodes are planned?)

It's a good show.
I was happily surprised.
After TFA and TLJ I thought Star Wars was dead to me.

The scene when that guy accidentally walking into the room and surprised the Manalorian was really good.
It was amusing and yet still bad ass..... tough to explain.

Was pleased they don't feel the need for cheesy one-liners either.

Dave Filoni is involved with this, and he is the best thing to happen to Star Wars since 70's George Lucas. He's been responsible for a few of the most powerful moments in Star Wars than I've experienced since the original flicks. Jon Favreau is definitely no slack in the creativity category either, so I'm happy they are both working on this. I'm happy the week to week is good, because that's usually where Filoni is the weakest. Hoping the finale of the first season lives up to his usual awesomeness.

Just saw the penultimate episode of season 1. Filoni is good at season enders, so the set up for it was good, but I've been digging the week to week so much that I kinda don't want a story arc yet. I've really been enjoying the guests they've been having on the show, from Amy Sedaris, Clancy Brown, Natalie Tena who played Tonks in Harry Potter and Osha in Game of Thrones (not to mention her in About A Boy), Moss from the IT Crowd, Ming-Na Wen, and so many others. The cameos are great, but overall unimportant to the great show it is so far. I hope they land the ending of Season 1, and I have faith that they will.

I just can't get enough of this little guy.
(I haven't seen this weeks episode yet hopefully they haven't killed him off.)

Slight spoiler, but as baby Yoda is the color of money, I can't see them killing off this little revenue maker anytime soon.

I know.
But I've read online (which is meaningless these days but still sometimes fun) that Disney did NOT expect the massive amount of love this character (and the whole show) is getting based on the total lack of toys that should have been out there for this Christmas.
And that the original story line might have been a little grimmer for "baby yoda".
Which kind of make a lot of sense to me.
