Humans are the best thing that ever happened to the environment. Without our technological intervention, most of the world would be uninhabitable (to humans). Humans make habitable environments. That's what we do. We even take them into space. Having fewer children (i.e. fewer humans) is the worst thing you can do for the future of the planet. The planet will die without humans to alter its fate.

While there is some truth to this (i.e. less Pampers in the landfill and less competition for resources) one must take into consideration that the younger generation keeps forgetting:Avatar wrote:Nah, cancer is nowhere near fast enough to make a difference in terms of killing people.
If you really want to help the environment, don't have children.

They advocate for medicare for all. But this requires a young, healthy generation to start paying into the system so that when they become the geezers they will be OK. But, by not having kids, they are going to reach 50, and the few kids who are now working will have to pay 90% of their salary in taxes to pay for Geezer replacement hips. Well, at least rationing doesn't exist...

Can you believe that the liberal talking heads are still parroting the "Trump wasn't really acquitted because it wasn't a real trial" line? It has been nearly a month--everyone else has moved on but they just can't let go of it. It must be hard to have no life other than indulging in OMBS.

Not really the right topic but anyway...Zarathustra wrote:Having fewer children (i.e. fewer humans) is the worst thing you can do for the future of the planet. The planet will die without humans to alter its fate.

last I checked developed nations are aready having less kids.Hashi Lebwohl wrote:I'll snip it and move it tomorrow. It's too late for that tonight.
Notice, though, that the people who push for "have less children" want only developed nations to have fewer children.

Shit is about to get real--for Biden.
Joe Biden under probe in Ukraine for alleged link to top prosecutor's 2016 ouster
Joe Biden under probe in Ukraine for alleged link to top prosecutor's 2016 ouster
Tough luck, Joe--it looks like Ukraine is catching up with you. Perhaps you should have have been funneling money into Ukraine, where the oligarchs would embezzle it, launder it, then use it to hire mercenaries and buy weapons to fight the Russians on the ground. Perhaps you should have not been engaging in a secret war behind Obama's back--he probably did not know--and behind Congress's back. That is why no one wanted anyone looking into Ukraine.Investigators in Ukraine have launched a probe into former U.S. Vice President Joe Biden over allegations that he pressured Ukrainian officials to fire the country's top prosecutor in 2016, according to a report.
The Ukrainian probe was launched in response to a court order, after the ousted prosecutor, Viktor Shokin, made an appeal for action in the matter, Shokin's attorney, Oleksandr Teleshetsky, told The Washington Post.
"They need to investigate this. They have no other alternative," Teleshetsky told the Post. "They are required to do this by the decision of the court. If they don't, then they violate a whole string of procedural norms."
Ukraine's State Bureau of Investigations confirmed a probe was underway, the Post reported.
Shokin has long objected to his removal, claiming Biden--who's now running for president--pushed for his firing because the prosecutor tried to investigate Burisma Holdings, the Ukrainian gas company where Biden's son, Hunter Biden, was a highly paid board member, reportedly receiving $83,000 per month.

Biden for a number of reasons is by now a complete no-hoper.
Add in his frankly embarrassing and sad losing of his grip on reality and he's going nowhere.
I suspect his apparently blatant nepotism in Ukraine will come back to bite him - unless he's quietly but firmly put out to pasture in some Sunnyville retirement home (which is what the kindest thing would be anyways).

That wont assist him in the slightest.
Plus its the Ukraine, right? So if they wanted to prosecute him hed have to extradited to appear.
Is he facing any prosecutorial action in the US?
And yes hes done. Hes too old, out of touch and is kinda sad all round.

He is staying in the race because he is a stubborn old man and thinks Obama will endorse him after he wins on Super Tuesday. At least, that is his plan. The only problem is that he won't win on Super Tuesday. Biden had a much better chance at winning in 2016 but Hillary took it from him and now he is suffering from senility too much.sgt.null wrote:So is Biden staying in race in hopes of avoiding prosecutions?
Ukraine is not going to extradict Biden and he won't face charges on it here. No, that investigation is all optics but it will take what little remains of the edge off his campaign.

More good news for the Trump Administration, more bad news for Democrats in the House: Don McGahn does not have to testify before the House Judiciary Committee, which means Congress cannot *enforce* the subpoena.
So much for the dream of "hey--let's impeach Trump again, but this time we will have the courts enforce the subpoenas". Basically, the court decided that impeachment was a political matter between the Legislative and Executive branches.

You lose, Adam Schiff. You lose, Gerrold Nadler. If federal courts were to swoop in to rescue Congress whenever its constitutional tools failed, it would not just supplement the political process; it would replace that process with one in which unelected judges become the perpetual "overseers" of our elected officials. That is not the role of judges in our democracy, and that is why Article III compels us to dismiss this case.

It was split because many judges are now political activists, except they are relatively quiet about it. As long as the decision was "this is not a matter for the courts to settle" that is all that really matters.
What Congress was trying to do, of course, was make itself more powerful than the Executive Branch--if they could force McGahn to testify then they could force anyone to testify, thus making the Executive subservient. Making an Administration testify against itself is a form of self-incrimination for which we citizen have the Fifth Amendment.
