Yes, Picard is old, but they build his age into the story, so it's not jarring or anything, more like natural progression.

E1 was a bit fast paced, but not overwhelmingly so I felt, and it seemed to slow down a little in E2.

Happy to keep watching, does feel like "proper" Star Trek to me.

I haven't read all of this thread, but I agree that Nementh was a very good episode. It was just great seeing Deanna and Will again.

It was also powerful in regards to letting us know what Soji is going through. Knowing that all of her memories of her life, and her resulting identity, are false is an incredible position to be in. We've seen it before with Buffy's "sister" Dawn.

SPIKE: Go home then.

DAWN: I don't feel like it right now.

SPIKE: Well, you can't bloody well stay here.

DAWN: Why not?

SPIKE: Because, I've got things to do. Bad, evil things! That are not for a child's eyes.

DAWN: I'm not a child. I'm not even human. Not originally.

SPIKE: (sighs) Yeah, well, originally I was. I got over it. Doesn't seem to me it matters very much how you start out.

Maybe so. Whatever your origin, you go from there. But initially, even if you "get that," it must be about the most difficult thing imaginable, and maybe impossible for a good many.


Awesome to see Hugh and 7 do their thing in the cube. Especially, of course, 7 going Borg again. Good thing it was only a local thing. Damned fun watching the cube regenerating.

Hard to imagine how Narissa escaped after being pinned down by that mob of Borg. Unless 7 unplugged right after they pinned her, and they all got up and walked away. But she got hers in the end.

The overall plot was cool. Not particularly unique, of course. Find me a story about people creating AI that doesn't have these kinds of issues. Matrix, Terminator, Dune, Blade Runner, etc., etc. But this was a good version of it. I wonder if the synths that the beacon summoned will be back. Is think they'd try to figure out where it was, and try to get there to save them, thinking the ending of the beacon's signal was due to the organics.

I also wonder if those who enhanced V-ger were synth. Presumably. Although it's possible that machine life was not intentionally created by those who built the original machinery. Could be it was a total surprise when the parts became living. But assuming synth, I have to assume V-ger a aware of those that nearly came through due to the beacon.

Data. Ah, Data. Both wonderful and stupid. Yes, wanting to "die" because he wanted to be human. But, duh, you don't have to die so young in order to be human. What was he, a few decades old?

Glad you got a chance to watch this. I know that some really didn't like it. Some because they don't like the "darker future" when STOS and STNG were all about a more hopeful future. Some just because they don't like the continuous story across an entire season.

It was almost sad to see what happened to Picard that took him out of Starfleet. The longer you are with an organization the more you feel that you yourself are an equal to the organization but in the end, you are a cog in the larger machine.

I watched the season 1 premiere when it came out, wasn't really hooked and didn't go back.

I just watched the first four episodes of season 3, and I'll stick with it now. But I am not a fan of the ultra-gritty, I'd prefer if they dispensed with all the profanity, and for God's sake could they please light their sets adequately?

I guess the profanity is realistic, but I'm not a fan, either.

And yes, apparently, the quadrant goes through a period of darkness.

I swear as much as the next guy. And I don't mind it. But it's very out of place in Star Trek. After all these decades, they're throwing it in everywhere?

I suppose it would be a bit discordant. (I stopped watching after season 1...dreams...meh...)

The real question of course is, "how much does the next guy swear?"

Ironically I never swore in the job (much/hardly at all) and not until I retired lol … I do have grandchildren so I have appropriate limits

It’s a pity you dumped Picard ~ it’s a delightful journey into nostalgia with a very cool story line.

the last season is somewhat belaboured but I very much enjoyed it.

Season 3 is turning out to the best season of Picard. Hopefully everyone that loves STNG is watching..... Ensign (now Commander) Roe Lauren was back albeit for a short time.

I might go back to it one of these days...was just very annoyed by what I thought was the end, at the end of S01, not actually being the end.

I gave up on Trek movies after the first reboot movie. I liked it initially for the most part, the casting was awesome, but upon a rewatch...it's not my thing.
I've tried to watch a few on the newer TV shows...absolute trash, imo.

I've heard very good things about Season 3 through.
I'm going to download it this weekend maybe.
Apparently the people responsible for what I called absolute trash Trek are hands off on Season 3 and the writer/director (?) is an actual Star Trek fan that knows the history of the show.

I also heard that the screen darkness goes away somehow?
