SRD has a new book coming out this year and so some suggestions have been made to the effect of a possible new E-fest this coming summer. Any thoughts?

I'll only be in the States for a few weeks, but who knows?

On the News page of his website, SRD recently wrote:The Great God's War" Book Three Delayed
I probably should have mentioned this some time ago, but I've been embarrassed. I used to pride myself on meeting my deadlines. But for reasons of ill health (my wife's as well as my own), I've been forced to get a considerable extension. Sadly, I won't meet that deadline either. But in this case, the reason is the sheer heft of the story I'm trying to tell in THE LAST REPOSITORY. The book is already almost 50,000 words longer than THE WAR WITHIN, and I still have (just guessing) 25% of the story to tell. In addition, I never let my agent and editors see my first draft. My need to do a second draft (primarily for internal consistency and style) will further delay the book by 3-4 months.
I regret all of this more than I can say. But I have to live my actual life while I'm writing.

Yes to an
Elohimfest, but let's determine when THE LAST REPOSITORY is actually going to be published before we start booking travel. With matters standing as SRD described last weekend, the June release date that Amazon, Waterstone, and others have on their sites is clearly right out.

Take lots of pics.

I'm interested, depending on timing, work schedule, etc.

I'd really love to, but until this pandemic blows over, I'm not making any plans at the moment. It might be a last minute thing if it happens for me.

Much as we'd like to see you and Julie again, not as the public health situation there now stands.

We have plenty of empty fields to socially distance in.

Understood. I've no doubt we could do the actual meet-up safely.
However, there are the logistics of getting there, staying there, eating there, getting home to consider. Appreciate the invitation; perhaps another time.

I'd love to Sarge, but the reasons I can't are many and varied (and way too dull to go into here

). That said I'll always be there in spirit with you guys and really hope you can get for a great few days of Donaldson centered fun!
Look forward to seeing the pictures if it is able to happen (current situation and all that).

We could hold an Efest in true 2020 fashion and have a Zoom meeting.

Hey, that's not a bad idea. I could even attend.

We should use Google Meet instead of Zoom, but apart from that, got my vote.
Also, "E"-fest would have a nice double meaning.

Yes - I'm in favour of this as well! (As an additional event, not a replacement.) That way I could skip out of this one as well (with some relevant tech-deficiency related excuse) and once again avoid any actual face-to-face style encounter that my misanthropic nature so rebels against.
(Got this vision of twenty plus people sitting in their kitchens awkwardly trying to keep themselves looking enthusiastic about "Donaldson's latest" in front of the sterile screes of their gadgets. Taa, but no taa very much!)
Nb. Take absolutely no notice of the above - it definitely wouldn't be like that. It's just me being a miserable c*nt as usual!

Sky, along with others tried this about a year and a half ago. Not video, admittedly, but an ongoing series of global Watcher chat sessions. This demonstrated the challenge I grappled with for years as a program manager of global deployments for a certain e-commerce and cloud infrastructure provider:
There Is No One Time Convenient For Global Group Meetings.

My comic book club has been doing
Monthly zoom meetings since covid.

A Zoom / Meet meeting is a great idea! Count me in. I don't mind when it is - happy to do a graveyard shift if necessary to meet some people here.

Yeah, agreed. Maybe no convenient time, but certainly a time when many could do it.
Also, we could just keep it going across time zones and people can drop in and out as a convenient time for them rolls round.
