They sort of covered it in the second season finale where (no spoilers) they made a lot of stuff about Discovery classified.

I'd have to have already watched Discovery to know that.

The real answer is the current creative team doesn't mind bending or breaking with established canon to tell their story and that happens all the time whether it's new Trek or new Star Wars or contemporary issues of long running comic book series. I know the Simpsons does it. And it's perfectly natural for creative people to want to put their own spin on the entertainment they create. However it was Gene Roddenberry and the amazing men and women who worked on TOS and TNG that created my understanding of what Star Trek is. To serve me onion soup, tell me it's chicken noodle and then Paramount is annoyed with me that I don't just go along with it isn't logical. Why not be honest from the beginning and admit it's onion soup. I might actually like it.

If they had done what Seth MacFarlane did with the Orville and Discovery was its own original thing I'd probably be it's biggest fan right now. But they had to build their new house on top of a cemetery filled with my childhood memories.
The truth is, like Enterprise before them, Discovery and Picard simply weren't made for old school fans like me and that's ok.

Oh and I look forward to sampling more Strange New Worlds when I get the chance.

I really liked Episode 6. This felt very STOS and the plot and acting were very good.

That's how I feel about the Kelvin Timeline films.

Still really enjoying SNW.

Episode 9 was just outstanding. You gotta jump in, the water's fine.

Episode 8 was a bit silly but TOS had some of those and the end of that made it worthwhile.

agree about episode 8 but it was funny in a way. initially dr m'benga reminded me of albert hoffman on the famous bicycle trip after he mixed stuff in his lab.

I just re-watched episode 10. Im gonna tell ya, if the last 9 were horrible and they were not, episode 10 made SNW's friggin awesome.

And I have to say it reminds me a bit of STOS City on the edge of forever.

KIRK: But she was right. Peace was the way.
SPOCK: She was right, but at the wrong time. With the A-bomb, and with their V2 rockets to carry them, Germany captured the world.
Peace is the answer but sometimes it requires strength.. Kirk was right in his time line when it came to the Romulans.

Finally watching this. I'm very happy with the first three episodes. I really like how Uhura isn't just a switchboard operator. I remember that happening in Spock's World.

Not so happy Nurse Chappel is being made out to be brilliant. Fine if she had ever done anything on TOS. If they make her so great here, all I'll be thinking about is why wasn't she figuring out things like The Naked Time and Miri.

I really love the return of episodic Trek. As with STOS there will be some that I will be "meh" about and maybe more-so on the rewatch. But just the return of something OS Trek is just awesome.

So how many humans have become god-like by now?

Gary Mitchell & Elizabeth Dehner
Willard Decker
Wesley Crusher
Rukiya

Honorable Mentions
Riker was briefly a Q.
Reggie was briefly pretty serious, if not exactly god-like.
