Possible final fate of the Dwarves

A small group of Dwarves, all that were remaining of the 7 Houses, gathered one last time and walked their way happily through Khazad-dûm.
The sound of their laughter and singing echoed throughout the great Halls. As did the sound of the bells. The last few generations of Dwarves took great delight in the making of bells of all sizes but especially tiny ones that they adorned on their clothing.
Then they packed their tools, gathered their belongings and made ready to journey to the far icy north to begin their new labors. As they walked out through the East Gate they joyfully greeted their traveling companion that was sitting in a wagon pulled by reindeer.
He was waiting for them. He had a long brown beard and wore a long floppy hat. His blue eyes twinkled and with a smile on his face he called out, "Are you ready my friends? We must make haste. It is a long way to go and Mrs Claus is waiting!"
What do you think?
I think it's funny that they would be called elves in the future.
