What do you think of Neville?

Do you like him? Hate Him? I don't actually like him that much *Ducks from b&b wrath* Because I never did like a comic relief type character... They have always annoyed me... Though my respect was considerably increased in the latest book... when he showed bravery and was not there just to balls himself or the situation up.

It was nice to discover that he has a way with magical plants. Because up till then he was pretty one-dimensional.

he seems to be develping as a character more as the series progresses...i hate him though...he seems too weak to even be near harry at all...course not everybody can be as strong as the leader

And he was very brave in the Ministry. I agree, he is developing. I think he has a good prospect of turning out quite well, once he learns his strong and weak points and how to use them.

With everything we find out about him in the last book, I have a lot more respect for Neville...he is developing quite a bit, and I'm quite happy about that...I can't wait to see where Rowling takes him in the next books.

I like Neville.

No wonder he isn't very brave, imagine living with his Gran! And his parents, he goes and visits them and they don't even know who he is!
He is brave, in his own way.

Neville is not that good a character imo, he lacks any feature other than clumsiness.

Was it just me, or is Neville looking way too "good" in the third movie? He's gone from roley-poley and klutzy to fairly tall and normal looking.
I know they can't cast an actor and predict how he'll grow and mature as the years pass . . . but I found his brief appearances jarring in the third flick.

Neville reminds me of several kids I knew from the several different schools I attended over the years (moved around a lot).
But his willingess to face Harry, Hermionie and Ron despite his being totally scared definitely deserved the extra points awarded by Dumbledore at the end of the first book and scored a couple of points to me for at least attempting to stand up to his friends.

Neville is the sum of our social fears, my freinds. JKR is developing him well, and my guess is she is building him up to kill him.

He's an alright dude... kind of annoying though, so I wouldn't really mind seeing him die. Cruel, I know, but it's just...well, Neville.

Neville is no coward!
Just because he has a little difficulty mastering some things (well, ok, just about anything) doesn't mean he lacks in heart. He stood up to the unstoppable trio in book one, and "it takes even more (courage) to stand up to your friends." He not only accompanied Harry on the mission to rescue Sirius, but he blindly hurled himself at the very powerful dark wizard who crippled his parents. He overcame his pain and fear (he had a broken ankle, as I recall) to try to help the unconscious Hermione escape from the Death Eaters....
Neville may be lacking a certain aptitude towards magic, but he has no lack of courage. He is one of my favorite characters, hence the probably over-zealous defense....
I love Neville! I think his story is, in many ways, more tragic than Harry's. Yeah, Harry's parents are dead, and he grew up with the horrible Dursley's, but poor Neville also grew up with no parents.....except that his are still alive, they just have no idea who he is.

And instead of the Dursley's, he grew up with an (apparently) emotionally distant, overbearing grandmother, who constantly compared him to his poor mad parents, and openly held the belief that he was well on his way to growing up a squib. Poor kid....
I think we can expect great things from Neville, before he quite possibly dies....

Poor Neville. I think he will die, trying to defend Harry or something. But, he must have an important part to play yet, since:
He was linked to the 'Prophecy' in the Order of the Pheonix.

Yeah, you have a good point

He earned a
lot of points from me in book five

He was half decent in that book... and not as retarded as he is in the other four books that came before that...

Yeah... But he wasn't in fact linked... not really... And i think it would be lame if it turned out that Neville was to become the hero
Nah, I don't think he'll die actually.

Not sure why though...
