I noticed recently that Donaldson has at least one rather long unpublished short story in his archives at Kent State University. It's called Human On My Faithless Arm and is from 1988. Obviously, it didn't meet his standards for publication, but I'm still curious. Does anyone who has visited KSU know anything more about the story?

Don't know anything about it.

The title is an allusion to a W H Auden poem.

• Lay your sleeping head, my love,
  Human on my faithless arm;
  Time and fevers burn away
  Individual beauty from
  Thoughtful children, and the grave
  Proves the child ephemeral:
  But in my arms till break of day
  Let the living creature lie,
  Mortal, guilty, but to me
  The entirely beautiful.

Maybe that's a clue to it's content, but if so, it's not a useful one.
