So I did.

Welcome back after an extended absence!
(OK, perhaps you were not absent; there was a paucity of posts, which looks like absence. Lurkers don't get noticed so much.)

Congratulation on your book. Tell us more, maybe even provide a link so those who are so inclined can read more...or purchase.

Many authors actually want to sell copies, but admittedly not all. Most of the ones who trumpet their accomplishment fall in the former category.

Thank you! How've you been doing? It's good to see a familiar face - or a familiar bison, in your case.

I see we're both in the Pacific Northwest. That's close to the location of my book's events. It's still in manuscript form, but it's a completed manuscript. I'm in search of a publishing agent so I don't have to take the self-publishing and self-promotion route. I'm proud to say that I've already received my first rejection email.

The working title is "The Legend of White Buffalo." Other working titles are "The First Chronicles of White Buffalo" and "The First Chronicles of Whachichun Tatonka." Yesterday I started work on chapter one of "The Second Chronicles of Whachichun Tatonka."

<summary>

An unimaginative biographer with a passive temperament (think Clark Kent) is looking for a story to write. He meets an intense, fiery Arapaho Native American named White Buffalo who is interested in having his life's adventures published. White Buffalo lures the biographer into a world of strange paranormal phenomena. The biographer remains skeptical about such things until White Buffalo reveals the existence of an underground devil cult that, with the assistance of gov't'l entities, threatens to topple civilization itself.

It took over a year to write a 72,000-word novel.

This work was influenced by Carlos Castaneda; but unlike him, I admit that my work is fictional. Shortly before the pandemic began in early 2020 a thread of an idea occurred to me, but I didn't know which genre to choose. I chose to go with Castaneda's style, although it evolved into an action/adventure novel.

A friend of mine who used to post here told me that parts of the book remind him of The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant. I'm sure there are superficial similarities.

I was told by someone else that it looks a lot like Constantine (Keanu Reeves). In my own defense, I'd never watched Constantine at the time I started writing this novel.

As with Stephen Donaldson, one of the chapters in my book came from a dream I had. I just had to translate the dream into a different place, time, and characters, and the rest was easy.

Yo Wormy! Keep us posted. Years ago I read The Pocket and the Pendant, by the Watch's Mark Jeffrey. May as well read another. :D

The entire manuscript is shareable on Google docs. I've given out public links to the first chapter on Facebook already. So here's a sneak preview!

Of course, I'll keep you guys posted. I just want to warn you that I'm not a Mark Jeffrey or a Stephen R. Donaldson. This type of writing is more difficult than I thought it was. Although I started with a general book outline, I wrote it down on paper only to have it disappear. So I decided to just wing most of it. My mind kept inventing problems for the characters to solve that I didn't have any solution for. I was amazed to find that the solutions I came up with, for them, worked out so well regarding the plot structure. Everything just came together, and it all made sense in the long run.

This always was a nice forum, with the exception of that Russian guy who verbally attacked me when I asked him if he wanted to discuss Immanuel Kant. That was unpleasant.

I can see how he might take that personally, especially if he's someone who gets triggered easily.

This book lacks motion. So it's really not finished. I've got to start writing on it again.

Not actually Russian though FWIW. An American member of the Russian Orthodox Church is all. :)

Is it any surprise that a member of the Russian Orthodox Church knows the specific differences between his church and other churches? That's one of the most important things church members focus on. Our religious differences are more important to them than what people share in common.

Help my wife and I pay our mortgage while you read a fun book! It's not, usually, a heavy or deep read.
