There were lots of other problems with IM3, but the Tony Stark character arc was extremely rewarding.

But I need to read this article to understand what "redemption" happens in Endgame. I can't even remember what Iron Man did in that double-movie, except for the snap.

I think an argument can be made that in spite of Steve Rogers belief that Tony isn't the guy to make the sacrifice play and validate Tony's hero status, Stark does that very thing at the end of Avengers 1. Had the worm hole closed a moment sooner Tony would have given his life for the cause much sooner than his sacrifice in End Game.
