General thread of problems

Rather than starting a new thread for every problem, I thought maybe this.

My problem is I can't look at private messages. Apparently, I'm in DEBUG MODE. Been going on 3 days now. Anybody else?

I got yer PM, read it, and responded to it.

But quizzically, said response PM is still sitting in my Outbox.

A PM stays in your Outbox until it is opened by the recipient. Which I cannot do.

Indeed. That's the quizzical part.

Fist and Faith: Try it with a different browser and see if you get the same results.
Or delete cache & cookies if you prefer.
I suspect that this might resolve the issue.
Or it might not. But definitely try it.

Shame on me for not having tried that first.

It does open in another browser. However, everything for the last two years is missing. Which is not slightly important, other than in that it is an indication of a problem.

But I'm on my cell atm, so will try again from my laptop this event.

That way you can tell if the recipient opened it. I think it's a handy feature.

The quizzicality lies in the unopenability, not in the handy Outbox remainification feature.

Does anyone else still get a "this site is not regarded as safe" message whenever they come onto the Watch? I get it, sometimes two or three times a visit, as I'm navigating from page to page or logging in/posting. Other times I don't get it at all.

It's only been happening since the site moved to a new server (or whatever that was that was done a few months ago when the site was 'down' for a while).

It's not a major deal - I've gotten used to it and bypass it pretty quickly - but I just wondered if anyone else gets it?

:)

Are you using http://kevinswatch.ihugny.com or httpS://kevinswatch.ihugny.com when you connect?

The latter is correct.

Certainly the former Wayfriend (I can see it at the top of my screen as I type), only the http is in red and has a line through it. (It also has an exclamation mark in front of it.)

Perhaps it's because I have a desktop icon which I use to get on to the site (if not being directly linked via an email notification of a thread I'm watching/posting on). It might be that that icon is using the 'wrong' address (or whatever you call it), since it was put in place before the change.

I'll try and put a new desktop link from a new Google search on my screen and see if that does anything.

Thanks for the help!

The one in the other browser was one of my alts. Didn't look closely the first time. So my alt can get to PMs, but this account cannot. And it happened to this account on both of my laptop's browsers and the cell browser it was logged into, all at the same time. I assume that suggests it's the account, not the browsers?

I cleared all the history on the cell's browser. Problem is I don't remember my pwd, so can't log back in to see if it works now.

For the alt account? Lemme know which account and I can reset it for you. Send me a PM with the account name and new password you want.

Def sounds like a bug. Not much I can probably do except let Vain know, maybe he can do something about it...

(Sorry, been away for a while.)

No, not the alt account. The alt account - moi - works fine. The imposter who started this thread is the one with the problem.

LOL, so you need to reset your pass for your main account? :D PM me what you want it to be (even just a temp one you can change later) and I'll re-set it for you.

Looks like Vain's a bit busier than I'd hoped. I don't really need my PMs, but it's quite the puzzle. If anyone has any advice, or guesses. The most recent picture in the Album's Forum Pictures is what I get when I try to go into my pm's. I've not only cleared history, but I've also gotten a brand new cell phone, and I reset my laptop to factory settings.

The image Fist posted should be very helpful in diagnosing the problem, since it contains specific details about what the SQL errors are and where it is occurring.

Out of range value for column 'user_unread_privmsg'
Damn, Fist. You exceeded the maximum number of unread messages!

Which looks like 65,535. That's a big ass number of unread messages.

http://www.phpbb2refugees.com/viewtopic ... 0c8ae93b1e

A possible solution is to find the people who have sent you messages that you have not read, which will be in their Outbox. They can delete them.

Of course, it depends on phpBB2 being able to successfully update the database to subtract from the count.

Anyway, that's an object lesson to all of us to keep up with our correspondences.

:LOLS:

Thanks. I'm quite positive that's not accurate, though. The only unread messages I've ever had are when I'm using my PMs to write a draft for something I'm going to post. I send one to myself, don't open it, and go to the Outbox to edit it until I'm satisfied. Then copy & paste it from the Outbox to post. While that leaves the one I sent in my Inbox, I often opened them just so I wouldn't have so many unopened. I certainly didn't have 65k sitting there.

I guess you all would have the same problem if it was some kind of virus that sends messages to other Watchers, endlessly cycling.

You suppose someone sent me 65k?

That, or they sent you negative one.
I think there is some sort of bug that sometimes when a person sends a PM and then deletes it from their outbox before it gets to the recipient, it can cause a problem. I've already been on the forum after I'd seen earlier in the day someone had sent me a PM but I didn't read it yet and then when I went back later, there is no PM and it says "You Have 65,535 Messages" until I click the link and go to my inbox (and find no new messages).
But seriously: If Vain has direct access to the SQL database, he can assuredly patch your record.
