Rick and Morty is hysterical.
Has a Doc and Marty from Back to the Future vibe going.
Whacky and fast paced but there are recurring characters and thread that follow throughout the seasons.
I can't praise it enough.

As well as Severance.
I never got hooked so fast on such an original show.

On paper I should have loved it but I couldn't get into for some reason.

That's a great question, HLT. I really liked the movie so was intrigued how the TV show would work. And I wasn't instantly enamored of it, despite Max Berry being in it (loved IT Crowd, though it took me an episode or two to warm up to the new Renholm). But I suppose it's the way they portrayed these immortal beings still being ruled by their fundamental human foibles, the combination of the absurd while still being believable (in terms of human thought and behavior, not verisimilitude). And then there was the scene where Nandor (the Relentless) is forced to fight a werewolf to the death, and the way he dispatches him... I still literally chuckle thinking about it two years later.

Same for Our Flag Means Death. A couple episodes in, I was mildly entertained but didn't see it becoming a staple. I'm glad I kept going.

I'm pretty surprised there isn't a Rick and Morty thread (and again, I almost didn't get very far into it because of the belching and all that). It's also about the absurdity of the human condition, but by comparing our incredibly finite and limited place in and understanding of the universe to the vastness of it, especially in the context of an even more infinite (some infinities are larger than others) multiverse.

I'll have to give it another shot.
Maybe I'll like it more now that it's getting closer to Halloween.

i'm with you on Witcher and Westworld. tho...i have liked all the seasons of westworld, they never even came close to losin me.

i had an emily st john mandel phase. i started with station eleven and liked it so i read all her books prior. (all 3 of em) her first book was the one i loved the most, Last Night in Montreal.
when i was done, however, i was done. i haven't read any of her recent works and i thought, when i saw they were doing a show of station eleven i'd watch it, but i haven't yet.

i do want to check out Chef vs Wild. (i love Alone!!)

i haven't watched top chef, i have watched a lot of clips from master chef australia tho and that's fun. and of course i love me some GBBS.

i probably am not *as* interested in the chefing shows because i am still experiencing PTSD from WORKING in kitchens for many years and living with a chef for 27 yrs!!

but i did binge chef vs wild. i would rename the first four or five episodes "desperately seeking mushrooms or i'll settle for huckleberries" gah. REALLY??
that's all they could come up with? mushrooms or huckleberries? sigh.
and then there's the urchin. ugh. nobody should be made to eat urchin. that was kind of annoying. also i didn't really care for the production, meaning, the production team that was following them around and filming them didn't really show them actually doing any foraging, just walking through the woods. i've seen better production values AND better bush and herb knowledge on Alone.
having said all that, it's true that the time of year had a lot to do with what they could find but dang...huckleberry this and huckleberry that.

You must! I mean, maybe not Season 1 (which was also a little rough) or the next few while they were still doing the whole reality show thing half the time, but everything else... Other than occasionally wanting to slap some of the foraging 'experts' or chefs, my biggest complaint is the host. He just seems a bit too arrogant for someone I've never heard of and who doesn't really demonstrate any skill throughout the show. "Oh, I've never had this..." "Oh, this one's new to me..." So like, what, you're just here to pick up tips?

RIGHT??!! hahaha. i've never heard of those 3 who judge Master Chef Australia either but you can certainly tell they know what they're talking about and tasting!! that dude just doesn't have the palate to be a judge. either that or they're editing out too much and we're not hearing everything he's saying.
(that's just to give him the benefit of the doubt because really the production team sucks so...yeah)

ok i'll check out this top chef thing.
