Our last posts on the Watch

Everyone who leaves the Watch
Leaves a last post. For the most
Part we don't know it will be their
Last post. And the search engine
Here is hit or miss at best.

Some people leave quietly, they
Slip away in the night. Some by
Chance. Some by design. Some
Are taken from us, against their
Will. Against their want. Against
Their design. Some go barking
Mad, kicking and screaming.

And some go quietly, too tired to
Fight anymore. Those taken away.

And every so often we run across
A name. Someone we had forgotten.
We smile, a pained smile of loss.

And then we have those who left
But come back. A surprise. A joy.
And sometimes they stay awhile.

Hold on to their memories. Hold
On to their memories. Because at
Some point the last person left
Here will have to close it down.
And we will exist frozen in some
Corner. Unvisited. Forgotten. And
The last one of will finally depart.

And we will only exist in memory.

Sgt, you didn't make me think only of Dr. Strange in What If? #43. You also brought Proust to mind. I've never read him, but Chris Stevens quoted him on Northern Exposure:
But when from a long-distant past nothing subsists, after the people are dead, after the things are broken and scattered, taste and smell alone, more fragile but more enduring, more unsubstantial, more persistent, more faithful, remain poised a long time, like souls, remembering, waiting, hoping, amid the ruins of all the rest; and bear unflinchingly, in the tiny and almost impalpable drop of their essence, the vast structure of recollection.

I was also a member at Danlo’s forum Ahiras Hangar. I just went there the other day to find the doors locked. It’s gone. But over the last 10 years or so I’d stop by once every couple of years to find that MsMary or StevieG had been there six months or so before and left a “hello. I’d imagine walking in an empty building hearing only the clip clop of my feet.

Anyway, Sarge writes much better than I. :D

Well, technically Ahiras Hangar is still there. You can still read all the threads, as far as I can tell. But if you try to post you get an error page.

Actually, now that I look at it, I believe Ahira's Hangar is hosted by Vain, same as this forum. At least, they both have ihugny.com in the url.

Ha - I just failed in an attempt to post in the Hangar :D

Oh well.

I was getting this message at the hangar:
Forbidden

You don't have permission to access this resource
But I did find it by a roundabout way but couldn’t post there.

Are y'all using this url: https://ahirashangar.ihugny.com/phpBB3/ ?

Hmmm, yes, I see...I can log in, but not post either, although I got a different error. Uh, I'll let Vain know I guess... :D

I found it using an old link I had. And like I said, I could read everything but I got an error page when I tried to post.

Thanks for letting Vain know, Av.

Not that anyone goes there anymore.

As mentioned upthread, it's mostly been me and StevieG saying hello to each other, with long periods of quiet in between. :D

They say nothing can be deleted from the internet. I think we have some stuff that has been deleted from the internet.
