Halloween

Halloween is a couple of days away. In my neighborhood the number of trick or treaters has varied over the years but lately the average is around a dozen coming to the door. The Village does a Trunk or Treat at one of the parks so I think a lot of the kids are at that.
Some of the older “kids are in to it too. I stopped out yesterday at a bar and the bartenders were dressed up. One woman as a vampire and the man as a priest. I haven’t dressed up to go out to a Halloween party in years. I never really thought it a big deal.
Our dog is getting dressed up today. My wife is going over to her friend’s house this afternoon where they will dress up our dog and her dog and take them to the kennel for pictures.

I decorate the yard and sometimes the inside too.
It opened up a creative side of me that I didn't know I had.
Plus with Halloween, if something looks all beat up and messy it fit with the theme so you don't even have to be very good at it to present something cool looking.
I do it for myself and for the kids.
Some years, I dress up and stand still like I'm one of my figures and then try to jump scare them.
It's a lot of fun.
I think for someone under ten to walk up the driveway to a house all decorated with orange lights, pumpkins and scary looking witches and creatures it will leave a nice fun impression for their whole lives.
At least it did for me.
I've remembered those few house from when I was a kid anyway.

Not really a thing here...themed parties and such, sure, but people (kids) don't go out "trick or treating" except maybe in like secure "enclaves" or suchlike.

If I was at my new home I would have a full supply of goodies for trick or treaters.
We got stuff in my old neighborhood (where I currently am) the first year and not one person rang the bell, so we haven't bothered since.
My family doesn't really celebrate Halloween in general. Our dress up in costume holiday is Purim.

I'm subbing at a middle school in the office this week, and the office staff are dressed as Starbucks baristas today. They emailed me a couple of weeks ago about it, so I could take part.
How fun!

Had a total of three groups stop by. Maybe a dozen kids stopping by. We have plenty of Twix and Three Musketeers for the next few days.

We usually have a whole lot. But I hung a sign last night. "Sorry. We have COVID." Not one knock.

lol
I’m sorry you’ve got COVID but that’s hilarious!! lol 😂
I might make that a regular Halloween greeting lol 😂
To be fair Halloween is not big down under ~ it’s definitely picking up in popularity but still.
And as a Brit ~ we used to do Guy Fawks night/bonfire night ~ which didn’t involve sweets or tricks ~ it involved a bonfire and fireworks 💥

I can't remember the last time I had trick-or-treaters come to my door. That's what living in a big, impersonal apartment building does to you.
I'd be *really* surprised if I got any in this condo complex -- nobody has kids that I can tell, and the entrance to the four apartments in our section are behind a locked door with one of those buzz-to-enter things. Three owners are retired, and the other guy is a tattoo artist who lives in San Francisco and is currently renting out this place to friends. (Who knew a tattoo artist in San Francisco makes enough money to afford a second home in Santa Fe?

)
I do decorate, however, to entertain myself. Just a Dia de los Muertos wreath on the door, a fake pumpkin, and a doormat that says "BOO".
