Estie is by far a greater female protagonist than Linden.

Fact.

Discuss?

If you hate Linden, then anyone else would be.

But I disagree. Linden had more to overcome, she had a more important part, she kicked more ass, she solved more problems, and she was well chosen.

Taking nothing away from Linden, Teresa, Morn, or even others such as Chrysalis, Estie is certainly a great protagonist...perhaps not as well Chosen, but no less well served.

I think Estie is fine as a character, but she didn't seem to struggle as much as others. Certainly not as much as Terisa, for sure. And was not under as much constant mental and physical torture as Linden. Did she have things to overcome? Sure. But to be honest, she reminded me of a weaker version of Elega, if anything. That said, I think I need to reread this series to fully grasp it.

I do see some parallels between Estie and Elega, two royal daughters; will have to give that some thought...
Spoiler
One clear break: Both respective fathers manipulate their relationships with their daughters, but the outcome of the two relationships drive very different narratives.

That's a nice take on it. It's not just the royalty aspect, it's that her struggles are the struggles of someone who has no real hardships. To some extent, you're impressed that they are not spoiled or greedy or overprotected.

So ... Estie is clearly S. T. But what does S. T. stand for, do you think?

Lest anyone miss this point, SRD uses Immure and Demure to emphasize it. Apart from that contrast, it is not clear why Estie's sisters are in the story.

Estie is too much of a Mary Sue
