Just put the game onto my console yesterday and phew!, was completely lost within about one minute of starting a game.

Went to YouTube for some beginners guides and was thrown into a huge dumping ground of a ton of information, none of which sank in and none of which stuck with me when I returned to the game.

I'll persevere, but someone tell me - is it worth the effort?

:? (Confused from Cornwall)

Eh, I didn't really enjoy 6, but that might be due to being a bit over 4x games these days...they're all much of a muchness it seems. I'll make an exception when I eventually get around to buying the new Dune game, but otherwise I don't think I've played 4x in as long as I can remember. Got Civ VI free from Epic I think, and barely did more than install it, start a game, and then quit within a few days.

Can't say if it was me or the game though. :D Or a combination.

 I've packed it up already Av. Just more effort than the payback ever looked like it was going to be. Another one consigned to the dustbin of also rans.

(On a more positive note, I've secured a copy of Morrowind, which I've wanted to play for a long time. It's an original xbox game, but should (being the operative word) be playable on a 360 with a bit of tinkering. Here's hoping :cross: )

Haha, I'm not usually opposed to old games, (some of my favourites are old and janky), but Morrowind is a bridge too far for me...I barely managed Oblivion in terms of graphics and interface etc.

Don't blame you on Civ...I mean, if you've played one, you've played them all. :D

Like Toad of Toad Hall, I've moved on already Av.

Morrowind? Pffft! You are speaking to the proud owner of a shiny new PS5 complete with Elden Ring and Baldur's Gate ready to go. The only thing stopping me is the unwelcome sight of the sun shining in the sky and my feelings of guilt that even I should be outside taking advantage of it. It's a rare occurrence in the UK these days and mustn't be wasted when it occurs.

Plus there's the additional factor of the formidable Mrs P, hovering in the background, who not unreasonably expects some consideration in the allocation of my time. ;)

Still - all good things come to those who wait, so I'm biding my time, relishing the anticipation of my soon to be transportation into the worlds of dark fantasy and uncomplicated good versus evil!

(Talking about the sun in the sky, I remember on one occasion as a student, living in a house that the owners had arranged to be painted. The weather was beautiful, azure blue skies, but the painter looked at it doubtfully. "I don't like the look of it," he said to me, pointing to a fluffy little cloud about the size of a postage stamp in the distance. "Looks like rain on its way. Don't want to paint a house in the rain - bubbles the paintwork." And so saying, he packed up his kit, threw it into his van and disappeared, not to be seen again until the weather had broken and the hot spell ended. :D )

Ah yes, I have a similar...impediment... :D

(I remember being amused when working in pubs with gardens how, as soon as the temperature reached about 25°C, everybody would whip off their shirts as if that was somehow hot... :) Bet that's changing a bit now with you guys getting some actual high temps... :D )

 The clowns in this country will whip off their t-shirts not because of the heat, but just because it's July Av. I've seen them sitting on the beach in deck-chairs with the wind howling around their ears before. They've spent the money to be here and they're bloody well going to be here!

Haha, in coastal towns here the residents frequently joke about how you can immediately see who's a tourist (whether from the interior or abroad) by the type of weather they will willingly endure just because it's the beach... :D (Europeans are usually even more obvious because they tend to be a bright boiled lobster red of course...I've seen some tourists who I couldn't believe were on their feet, so extensive was their sunburn...like actually felt ill looking at their blistered hides.)

No, but really if I have to nuke Ghandi at some point (or get nuked by him) I will probably not bother. :D I think the only thing that could send me back to Civ would be if they added Total War style RTS battles to the turn based "civilisation" stuff. Maybe. :D
