Dire Wolves are about 25% larger than modern gray wolves and have been exitinct for the last 12,500 years--that goes back to the very earliest days of human civilization, as far as we can tell, going all the way back to the Younger Dryas days--you know, that impact event that precipitated a rapid period of global cooling at about that time. If they can extract sufficient genetic material from the remains of the Tasmanian wolves, then yes. Texas A&M has, for years, had a program where people could pay x to have their beloved pet cloned--they get a new puppy that is the genetic equivalent of their old faithful hound who recently passed.
