For such a small village, Mithil Stonedown produces some extraordinary people, some of whom change the Land forever...
(wonder if there is something in the water?)
Who is your favorite villager, and why?
Who is your least favorite and why?
Who do you think makes the biggest changes in the Land for good? For ill?

I went with sunder, although I was torn between him and trell, so much so tha I almost didn't vote. It was a very hard decision.

i voted lena because without her being in mithil stonedown at the right place at the right time TC would have never commited the acts that resulted in his guilt and debt to the land. Perhaps he would have destroyed it without saving if he didnt have the overwhelming sense of responsiblity to the people he hurt.

I vote Lena too - and I couldn't explain it any better than Master Jedi did above.

Well, since you included both chrons ;) I had to go with Sunder, hands down. His strength, his guts, his ability to acept not only the blood that he shed in the first place (especially his family's  ) but also the realization that it was evil all along, when such a realization would have driven me right over the edge....

And to top it all off, his capacity for love....to be able to love a new family after the tragedy of the first....

His grim determination to see the wrongs that were his life answered for.....his willingness to fight for an idea he couldn't possibly envision...

Sunder is the man! 8)

Second favorite: Triock! :D

Triock was such a sad, bitter man....but he had even more strength of character than Atiaran, who was able to do what she had to despite the consequences to herself, but in the end was unable to handle it, and went mad....or Trell, whose despair (justified as it was, poor man :() led him in the end to harm the stone he loved....Triock was the one who held everyone else together for many years, he raised Elena singlehandedly, because everyone else was too messed up to raise a child....

And after it all fell down, Atiaran was dead, Elena was dead, Lena mad, Trell catatonic (he really is the King Lear here, danlo 8) )Triock still had enough love for the Land to find hope in the unbeliever, when he, perhaps more than anyone, had a right to wish him dead...

And in the end, to come to some kind of peace with him....

Triock and Sunder are very similar men, imho. Both strong beyond almost any other character in the chrons. Both able to face heinous wrongs, and not only survive them, but retain the ability to hope, and to love....

Least favorite would have to be Nassic, just because he had such a brief cameo in the story....although I love his story, another sad but hopeful tale....

Or Lena.....sweet as she was in the beginning, she just didn't have the guts that ALL of the others did. What happened to her was pitiable, and she did have guts.....her final scene in TPTP proves that....but there was just not as much depth of character there as there was in the others, imho.

Lena is the Ophelia of the Chrons....

As for who had the most influence, I'd have to say Lena though. As Covenant himself thinks in TWL, if she hadn't shown up, he might have died right there on KW, in madness and vertigo.....
And her rape had repricussions that lasted for 4000 years....

Wow, how can you pick 1?
Sunder did just about as much as any one character can do in a literary work, love him and wanted to pick Him... they all are so typical of the Land, but I went with Triock because of what he didn't do, though everything in him must have screamed otherwise.

And a most superb analysis, B&B! :)

I, like Dromond, went with Triock, and for the same reason. To turn the other cheek, for as hard as that was to do for him, was amazing.

My favourite is Triock - because he is so interesting.
Hard to say who my least favourite is.
The person who makes the biggest change for good is Trell - his attempt at desecration gave Mhorham the knowledge he needed. For ill - I'd say Triock - he raised Elena to be the way she was, and his actions at the Fall of the Collosus caused alot of harm.

Cool. thanks for the slant, Ur-Vile.

Never thought of Triock as harmful.
amazing, the different perspectives brought to the table. 8)

Holy @#$%!!! b&b, you're doing it again!! :D Did you see my two posts in Dissecting last night about Sunder? I obviously agree!! (Kaos and I used to try to talk someone or other into seeing the glory that is Sunder.:))

And I was going to pick Triock until I saw that Sunder was on the list, so I'm entirely with you. And Fire. :D

Nassic had the strength of faith and self to follow the hardest road, willingly into the madness of an interminable and perhaps endless wait . He gave Sunder the foundation on which he could choose to follow Covenant. Maintaining belief in the face of loss and opposition is as important as gaining belief and following despite doubt.

Nice point you make, edinburghemma. I felt sad for Nassic. However, I voted for Sunder, for all the reasons birdandbear stated. (Yeah, we're just directing everyone to b&b, heh, heh.)

I found trell to be the most interesting story.
