im wondering: what did Bannor do in the years between LFB and TIW in the first serise. If this is in the wrong forums, someone please tell me. But i don't think SRD ever answerd that completly.

I don't think it's possible to guess. He was assigned to Covenant in both those books. But was he taken away from a Lord for this, or was he not assigned to a specific Lord, just doing general security stuff around Revelstone? If the latter, what sorts of things did he do? Did the non-assigned Bloodguard leave Revelstone, going on patrols? Who knows. Gotta ask in June.

Ah yes, welcome to the Watch!! Elohimfest in Albuquerque, and SRD has graciously agreed to speak with those of us who can attend!! There are one or two threads about it.

For what it's worth, I don't think Bannor would have been taken from protecting one of the Lords to be assigned to Covenant.

In Gilden-Fire we listen in on Korik's thoughts as he's deciding which comrades to take on his mission. He considers the protectors of Lords Loerya and Amatin because they have recently traveled in the Sarangrave and can tell about its current hazards, but decides against taking them because "they had the right to remain with those Lords they personally warded."

Bannor _was_ in the line of succession for First Mark. So he may well have had duties similar to one of the Joint Chiefs of Staff when Covenant wasn't around. As I recall, early in TIW First Mark Morin is seen advising Hile Troy, Quaan, and the Lords on war strategy.

Yeah, all good points, Durris. But I wonder if the Bloodguard took white gold seriously enough to say, "Hey Bannor, you should give up your current assignment of Lord X, and watch this Covenant guy. As one of the five original commanders, you are extremely capable, and have the best chance of killing him if need be." It might have been seen as important enough to take away his "right to remain" if you follow me. Of course, it's total speculation, and I'm not actually trying to support this point. Just thinking out loud.

I also wonder what kind of war strategies the Haruchai have. Their extraordinary abilities might mean they just say, "I'll kill those 200, you kill those 200. Whichever of us finishes first can help Morin with the 30 griffins." Of course, the Ho-aru and Nimishi used to fight each other, so that kind of thinking wouldn't have gotten them too far.

Given their willful ignorance in other crucial matters of lore, would they have given wild magic its proper credit as an ontological threat?

Yeah, that's what I mean. Would they have taken even this seriously? They had heard the name the Power of Command only uttered in whispers by Kevin and crew. But the PoC was something the Lords had access to, and probably wanted to keep a lid on it. White gold may have been spoken of more openly, since they weren't aware of any way to get some. Would the Bloodguard have taken such conversations, if there were any, seriously, and therefore assigned someone of extreme competence to Covenant?

Seriously though, I imagine they probably had him doing other things as other people have suggested: security, scouting, war strategizing, etc.

Given the Vow's effects on both physical aging and time in general, that would be a thoroughly redundant act.
