Garth Marenghi's Darkplace

Has anyone else seen this?

It's a parody of all of the Glen A. Larson type shows of the 80s, complete with shoddy camera work, bad dubbing, even worse hair and excessive use of slow motion.
Darkplace was scripted and directed by the best-selling horror writer Garth Marenghi, known to thousands as the author of such classic chillers as The Ooze (can water die?), Afterbirth (a mutated placenta attacks Bristol) and Black Fang (rats learn to drive). In addition, Marenghi starred as the show’s lead character, Dr. Rick Dagless M.D., a maverick doctor battling against the evil forces lurking in a standard-sized hellmouth underneath a hospital in pre-apocalyptic Romford.
Have a look at the character biographies here.

I bloody love this. Couldn't stand the first episode, but am now enthralled. I must own every episode and buy a POSTER OF DAG!

Totally. Does it have a site? You must see it. Where are you?It was panned as a spoof that fails, but any slow-mo running down hospital corridors has me gripped. The glasses are a winner also. I shall google it now.

Saw the last episode the other night. She's turning into broccoli! Interesting to see The Office co-writer Stephen Marchant in a few epsiodes, I wonder if he helped with the writing?

I'd like to know if they have some kindof continuation planned, like maybe Darkplace 2005, in the style of Diagnosis Murder.

Ah, who would take Van Dyke's part? I doubt anyone could match his sexual charisma!

I'm sure a more mature and distinguished Dr Rick Dagless could give him a run for his money. ;)

But Nav, how could they do it without the original cast (one of them vanished, and I'm not sure all the others are still around)?

This is a great show! I've finally got it on dvd.

Possibly the best episode is the last "broccoli-themed" one.
The 80's pop song had me in stitches!

Hmmm, Loremaster's avatar just reminded me about the Mighty Boosh..

I think Sanchez is one of the best characters, purely because the actor is so versatile. His performance as Dixon Bainbrudge (Mighty Boosh) is pure genius

New(ish) from the makers of Darkplace:
Man to Man with Dean Learner

Here is part of an interview with Marenghi himself, promoting his new film "War of the Wasps"

I love how "Dean Learner" plays his new role just as wooden as the Thornton Reed character, and "Todd Rivers" is still called Sanchez!

I've seen that War of the Wasps clip - it looks hilarious! And Man to Man with Dean Learner is brilliant.

Watch Snuff Box sometime (on youtube). It's made by Todd Berry (Sanchez, Bainbridge) and the guy who plays Mr Fossil. Very weird sketch show, but quite funny.

Particularly if you like songs made of swear-words!

Garth marenghi's dark place is awesome, but i'm not really a fan of Snuffbox.

I found one of two of the sketchs funny - the one where he helps the women, then tells them to F*** Off! when he finds they have a boyfriend. And the Whiskey! one.

Other than that i thought it was poor.

Saw it a couple of years ago.

The pixelated image of a patient being violated by an eyeball has stayed with me. As well as Garth Marenghi's boast that unlike most authors he has written more books than he has read.
