I have an MP3 file sharing program, and today I typed in 'William Shatner' to see if the man had released songs. Well, one of the songs that came up is called 'The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins' - he did it with Nimoy!!!

Wow! I've heard that song!
Shatner in music.... it's just sad, but true.

It must have been one of the myriad odd projects Shatner did as a needed source of income in the lean years after the cancellation of Star Trek. Watched a bio of Shatner recently in which he said of those years, "I was an international television star with no money." Something about the finer details of his contract with NBC at the time that prevented him from receiving any "residuals" from the show, even as it became a worldwide moneymaker for the network while in syndication. Meanwhile, Shatner was starved for good roles because no one could see him as anyone other than Captain Kirk. So when you're trying to survive, you'll do almost anything. Hence, the duets with Nimoy and other assorted weirdness. And I'm sure they did a fine job on 'The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins'!

I remember one of my friend's dad had a copy of Shatner's album. We used to listen to his covers of Hey, Mr Tangerine Man and Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds. They're great, it almost sounds like he's doing them in character.
