Its definitely not the exact story Lucas had in mind.

He has stated in interviews that he submitted a story treatment but that the Producers and J J Abrams decided to go in a different direction.
GL criticized elements of TFA in that he felt it was too retro. I guess he wanted the series to follow the aesthetic he established in the prequels or to go in a totally different direction. I am happy with how SW 7 turned out.

It was too derivative for me. It was practically a reboot of 4. That said, I could still sort fit a bit of it into the extended universe, so at least that wasn't too bad.
