Just got back from Goldbergs Deli where Menolly and I had a late brunch of a for-two belly lox platter with everything bagels and all the trimmings. She added a whitefish head, as usual. Bloody Marys (she surprised me by having one!) and coffee.

From my latest adventure at the Japanese dollar store: Fried Saltiness.
Apparently just rice crackers, but with a name like that, who could resist?

Not enough on its own though; umami is better ...... think 'savoryness'.

Fried Umaminess just doesn't have the same ring to it. Though they would have been good with some soy sauce or seaweed or something.

Agreed Sorus - fried saltiness would have had me raising my hand too!

Rump steak and chips for dinner last night. Pretty basic, but I did a quick red wine pan sauce by deglazing the pan with a cab sauv after cooking.
Night before was honey and mustard chicken tramezzini.

Off for a breakfast of pancakes with cheese and pickle, then peanut butter and blackcurrant jam. Coffee and juice on the side!

That's just wrong.
The only things you can put on pancakes is sugar, cinnamon and lemon juice.

Well - ordinarily I'd agree Av, but I had mix left from making yorkies and no lemon juice (I know, I know.....) so came up with an alternative plan: savory pancakes followed by sweet. The results were pretty fine - they'll never beat lemon etc, but damn, they did hit the spot that day!

In Yorkshire they are apparently eaten as a prelude to the main roast dinner, served on a bed of gravy! What's that all about?

Ah of course, Yorkshire puddings. You're way too slippery for me, peter. And much too erudite for my simple tastes. I'm now eating a thick slice of Humble Pie.
