Did you post this Rev just to get my attention? Love is too strong a word but I thought they were very cool back in the day. My favorite songs are Holidays in the Sun and My Way.
My Way still cracks me up even after listening to it 3,567 times.

The Pistols were Rotten and Vicious and sickening...wait a second. :D

Not you guys, but I know of one person who wears a Sex Pistols T-shirt and doesn't even listen to the music. I can't stand people like that, who do it just to be cool.

That said, my favorite kind of music in this vein would be the pioneers, those who inspired punk and industrial--such as Iggy Pop & The Stooges (Raw Power).

I hate the people who do that. I think they should be taken to the middle of no-where and shot.

Here's another vote. The Pistols first got me into punk rock back in '92 or so. And it's a bit uncanny how good Never mind the Bollocks still sounds.

I was going to see them in Stockholm on their reunion tour in '96 or so, but for some reason I didn't get around to it. I heard the live album, though - they still sounded pretty good.

Technically, however, "My Way" isn't a Sex Pistols song although it was released under that name as a single. It was made after the band broke up, along with a number of other more or less weird songs for the movie The great rock & roll swindle. (Any of you seen that, btw? It's... weird. And the soundtrack is actually a great comedy album. :) ) "My Way" is just Sid Vicious, Steve Jones and a bunch of French session players.

Oh, and I'd also like to add that while I love the big songs that everyone knows - "Anarchy in the UK" and "God save the queen" and so on, some of my favorites are the somewhat more obscure songs. "Satellite" (the B-side of Holidays in the Sun) has about the coolest air-guitar riff ever, and their cover of the Who's "Substitute" (it's on the Great Rock & Roll Swindle soundtrack) is hilarious. Far cooler than the Ramones' version of the same song, really. :)

Yes, they were way cool and their album is great too. It has a unique sound of that era. I don't know if this is true, but a friend of mine who is a Pistols fanatic says that of the 24 channels used during recording, 18 was used for guitars! Should count for something...

That's one of the many old myths. John Lydon used to claim that there were 21 guitar tracks on "Anarchy in the UK", but even he admitted it wasn't true in a later interview. According to Steve Jones (who should know), there were usually about six guitar tracks.

An undeniably influential band, but I'm hard-pressed to think of anything they've ever done that resonated with me.

listened to them a lot in high school. such an influential band with just one proper album under their name. plenty of music seems to be available.

liked some of Jones stuff post Pistols. and Rotten's PIL had some great stuff. Sid was an accident waiting to happen. heroin is such a miserable drug. and Nancy was born to die young.
