Just curious, anyone care to make a list of the funniest games they have ever played? I will start
1) Lunar I and II: Kind of formulaic console RPGs, but still fantastic. The best writing I have ever seen in a console game. (Working Design's translation team must be genius!)
2)ANY Zork game. I am ashamed of my lack of patience with the earlier ones. (Commodore 64 was just before my time) I did manage to work my way through zork zero. Return to zork ruled and Grand Inquisitor are highly underrated. (Adventure is NOT my genre though, I merely dabbled in it)
3) Fallout I and II: If you have played them, you know. "I feel as if I have just passed some arbitrary numerical threshold and become much more powerful!"
4) Final Fantasy VII: Cartoon cursing just does me in, I have no idea why.
5) Planescape: Torment. Everything Morte says cracks me up. Probably the best writing of ANY game EVER. I am glad to know this is the team that is designing KOTOR II

OK, now HERE is a thread I can definately relate to. I want two top five lists, one for old school and one for newer. Oh yeah, by the way, Morte was great. As was the Abstinant Succubus.
Old school top 5...
1:Legend of Zelda II, Adventure of Link (because I'm STILL working on it) NES
2:DEstiny Of An Emperor NES
3:Civilization 1 CPU
4:Final Fantasy 1
5:Ultima IV Quest for the Avatar
Ok...newer games....
1: Half life (give credit where credit is due)
2:Morrowind....also for the hours wasted
3:Sonic Adventure II
4:Neverwinter Nights
5:wow I'm having trouble thinking of newer games that I really enjoyed..... I'll say Tony Hawk underground, for the excellent sound track

OK ok, I'll go into a bit more detail. there are two modes of play, the building and the tearin' down.
During the building part, you have to build a castle with walls and cannons and what not. How you build the walls is with various pieces that remind of nothing if not tetris pieces that you have to fit in some random order. You put your turrets and what not in there, and blow up other people's castles, or roving bandit ships. Repeat as necessary.

Re entering a top 5 here....
Definately Final Fantasy 7 has to be on my list
I also want to add Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door
because I just finished it and it was the most innovative RPG I've ever played. I hope more serious rpgs try to incorperate a few of the ideas there....
Alpha Centauri for the PC is a civilization building game that takes place on an alien planet and the technologies start AFTER our current level of technology, and go on forever. You choose your nation based on their philosophical idealogies, like free market or communist police state. It's a lot of fun.
Sonic Adventure 2 is the best platform game ever, and racing Chao is a blast. I definately want that on my list.
Quake 1: Team Fortress was the FPS that I had the most fun with, so I have to go with it too

Did you know the lead designer/ developer is a Gap fan? In the manual he talks about how he read the series straight. Also, in the expansion pack, the aliens were very influenced by the Amnion - the way they conducted deals.Nathan wrote:Alpha centauri was good. Shame it won't run under windows xp...
