This is a reply to Fist and a topic in and of itself. Yes, Fist, I think if you examine the Matrix movies thoroughly, you'll find many Biblical references. The ship Morpheus captained was named after the most famous of Babylonian kings, who had an 'oracle', or prophet, named Daniel. Daniel fortold the destruction of Babylon, as well as foretelling the Messanic Times, or the coming Revelation (in Greek it's Apocalypse). The Merovingian was in fact, if I remember corerectly, an angel who carried out some of God's nastier remonstrations.

Does anyone else have a Matrix-Bible connection?

Oh, here's another. Neo, who is the "One", means 'new', thusly the New One. Jesus is the One in some Biblical texts, and is reffered to as the Alpha and the Omega, or the beginning and the end. Thus, 'the One and the Same'.

Merovingian actually was the name of the pre-Carolingian rulers of France (ie Charlemagne). The royal bloodline was founded by Merovech and continued until Dagobert II was killed by Pepin of Heristal.
Many authors and historians (some good, some not so good) have connected the bloodline of Jesus with the Merovingians. I think that is the biblical connection.

There was a practical political purpose to linking Jesus to the Merovingians. The Franks were the first major germanic tribe to convert to catholicism. Most of the tribes were arian christian through the sixth century.

The Merovingians were still arian christians when Pepin killed off Dagobert. The assassination was a deal, a conspiracy if you will, between the Pope/bishop of Rome and Pepin who agreed to convert to Catholicism. I'm not aware of the Merovingians ever making that claim of a connection however. Of course Mary Magdalene is revered in Southern France....

Clovis converted the Franks to catholicism in the 480's. He found it useful because it created a fifth column among the population of southern Gaul, who were then ruled by the arian Visigoths. With the support of the catholic bishops and populace, Clovis was able to take over in southern Gaul, and push the Visigoths into Spain.

Clovis married a catholic princess of the traditionally arian Burgundians and would later convert to catholicism in 496 during a battle remininscent of Constantine. Pepin's assassination of Dagobert was a symbol of the Church's new covenant with the Carolingians and the fall of the Merovingians.

What did Henri IV say, "Paris is worth a mass."? I guess he was just following an old tradition in that part of the world.
