my favorite is probably the one where picard is trying to rescue someone from romulus with spock.

The Inner Light - Picard lives the life of a dying civilization

From what I've read in this thread so far you might have thought that this is the "Favorite STNG episode" My favorite is the STOS episode "City On The Edge Of Forever". For those that don't recognize that title this is the story that has Kirk and Spock following McCoy through a time portal to 1930's earth. McCoy (who had accidentally taken a massive dose of medication and was temporarily demented) had changed history by saving a young social worker who should have died. Kirk and Spock search for McCoy and Kirk manages to fall in love with the very woman that McCoy had saved. Of course Spock discovers that if the timeline is to be restored to normal, the woman has to die. Kirk ends up physically stopping McCoy in a very moving and emotional moment. In the end all is restored to normal except Kirk's feelings of loss. He ends the episode by saying "Let's get the hell out of here." Strong language in 1967.

City on the Edge of Forever is my favorite original ST episode, but I like the ones I named better. STNG is my favorite series.

So I don't come off like a STOS snob here are my favorite STNG episodes.

If McCoy erases the federation why are kirk and spock still there

Down on the planet, they were supposed to be too close to the Ring (whatever it's called) to be affected by the time wave.

The social worker was played by Joan Collins

I love "Classic" Trek, but I admit ST: TNG was pretty impressive when it got rolling. I only watched TNG sporadically during its run, so I live in fear of disembowelment by TNG fans. Nevertheless:

Amok Time -- Kirk versus Spock. Guest starring Mike Tyson.
The Menagerie -- Capt. Pike and 23rd Century communication: blinky lights. Yes. No.
The Doomsday Machine -- huge interstellar cigar vs. non-smoking Enterprise crew.
The Changeling -- "I am Nomad and I cannot spell. Kirk. Roykirk. Whatever."
Let That Be Your Last Battlefield -- talk about split personalities...
Mirror, Mirror -- alternate universe in which Shatner actually makes GOOD Trek movies.

The City On The Edge Of Forever: Supplanted "Doomsday Machine" as my favorite sometime after I turned 25. Must be maturity kicking in.
Corbomite Maneuver -- "Not chess Mr. Spock, Poker."
Arena -- The basic chemistry lesson was in a word fascinating.
Amok Time -- "Wait a minute. Nobody said anything about a fight to the death!"
The Menagerie -- Where I find the original "Cage" very entertaining, Spock's seemingly irrational behavior in the clip show is a bit distracting.
The Doomsday Machine -- Used to be my favorite. I loved how Kirk decides to try to get the Constellation working enough to help fight.

i always liked the episodes where kirk talked a machine or computer to distruction, i cant remember the names of any of them though. except for changeling

I always loved the doomsday machine episode...It seemed so unbeatable. I wasn't used to the Trek crew meeting something they couldn't beat. It was a new concept!

Since I always fall for the more silly episodes of everything I will vote for Data's Day (the grin on his face - hilarious! ). In the original series I like the episode with the "original Q", or at least the idea of Q. In Voyager I like most episodes with 7 of 9... And I love the last episode there.

How does people around here feel about Q? I disliked him a lot when I saw him in the first seasons of TNG, but he grew on me: now I always look forward to when he will turn up and, always, turn everything upside down (I love the episode when he is stripped of his powers!).

Mental note: I wonder if anyone else noticed that the principle from the neighbouring school in Parker Lewis appeared as a rather clumsy Q on Voyager? Probably everybody.

Hey, there's a fantastic TNG book by Peter David called Vendetta. It ties the Borg, the Doomsday Machine, and (theoretically) the Preservers. Great story, and FANTASTIC space battles. The only flaw is a really stupid love interest for Picard, but I just pretend that's not there.

It's been so long since I saw Parker Lewis (GREAT show!!) that I did not remember. However, if you're talking about the suicidal Q, I'll have to argue the "clumsy" part. He was just about the coolest thing ever!

My all time fav TNG is the borg take over of Picard

Original would have to be the on where the people who were white on the left side were fighting with the people who were white on the reight side - great social commentary for 60's television..starred Frank Gorshwin, I think
