I was thinking over the weekend how cool it would be to re-do the 'Chronicles' like what Maguire did to Oz in 'Wicked' -- re-tell the whole story from the POV of Lord Foul as the hero (!) ('Wicked' is a re-telling of 'The Wizard of Oz' from the Wicked Witch of the West's POV -- Dorothy is an irksome prom queen meddler, the Wizard is scheming charlatan, and we feel for the poor, green-skinned outcast 'witch', etc. It's really good).

Imagine this:
Foul is wronged by his brother, the Creator, who imprisons him unjustly. He is befriended only by three enlightened souls called 'Ravers' who share his wronged plight. Together, they forge an army to engineer their escape and take their just, Monte Cristo-style revenge upon the Creator.

But their plans are foiled when a human from another world is inadvertently summoned. This arrogant, selfish, vile rapist who happens by accident to carry a power called ' wild magic' befitting a god, and who is also ignorant and wreckless, decides in his self-importance to appoint himself Helper of the Jailer. He will ensure that Foul does not, in fact, escape. Wicked, diseased and rude, this puny mortal tormentor is aided by evil races such as Giants, Ranyhyn, and Haruchai.

Foul and his three friends have only one chance -- the very power of wild magic that is meant to lock him in his prison forever might possibly -- just possibly! -- be used to break out! Can he wrest this Power from the Helper of the Jailer?

Anyone care to help spin this tale of the Bizarro-Land?

That story line is just wrong

There's also a book about Grendel (from Beowulf) like that. I haven't read it, but I hear it's decent.

There was a topic some where like this. It was something like writing about the evil perspective. I think it could be easily done, with good writing anybody can be made to sound good.

Yes, I think it was Tom who started that topic about writing from Foul's perspective, but he would still have been the same evil Foul we know and (heh) despise. What intrigues me about this idea is the concept of writing Foul as actually the hero. This was done (to a sadly minimal extent) with The Vampire Lestat, the sequel to Interview with the Vampire. Throughout Interview, Lestat was portrayed as villainous, but in the sequel we discover that Louis completely misunderstood him all along. I like the idea of doing that with Foul.
