Would you choose to be wedded?

I mean of course the state Angus is at the end of TDAGD. So if you were given the opportunity to become surgically enhanced, with a datacore to support your knowledge and decision, with zone implants to control your emotions and pain, and - possibly - a better chance for a long life: would you submit yourselv to the procedures?

Assuming you mean welded :), I like the strength and the datacore, and the pain control is a nice idea, but no way would I want a computer controlling my emotions. That's the wellspring of life.

Refraining from a farfetched pun...

No, wedded was when the person CHOSE to have the implants, Welded was when they did it TO you.

Really?? My vocabulary is lacking. Where is that, Seppi?

It's in book 2 or 3. Seppi's right.

Myself, I'd would rather be myself without any implants; there's something to be said for natural aptitude.

30 years from now you'll be singing a different tune.

Dios says at the end of book two... while talking to Angus... that wedded is where you control your data core... and the data core does not control you... :P

Good one, Darth. I got almost to the end of FK late last night, but fell asleep.

Even just reading the sections about Angus, it still makes a compelling story.

So would you like to be hooked up with a datacore? And the rest of you guys except Ur-Vile, what would you do?

Yep! I'd love to have all of Angus' enhancements... and yet have complete control over my zone implants... instead of the other way round.

It would definatley depend on the circumstances-If I was forced into immanent space battle or war with the Amnion, yes. If not I'll take my chances.

Oh boy, would I ever like to be a wedded cyborg! It's something I've thought about a lot since reading the Gap. Ultimately, I don't think I'd be trusting enough to undergo the procedure. I mean, what if they put in a controlling datacore while you were under?

I'd love having that knowledge database to acces whenever I needed to know anything, and the way Angus' unerring aim would help my fencing no end. I guess you'd have to be careful not to destroy your body by constantly pushing yourself beyond your limits with the zone implants, though.

Actually I think the difference is accepting the datacore or being forced to accept it. I think there is one of the explanation chapters in Forbidden Knowledge. I don't think either version of the cyborgs has true freedom of will.

I think your wrong. I think that having complete control over your equipment is full freedom of will.

Am I the only one who'd refuse it?

I would refuse it. I wouldn't want Zone Implants controlling me.

I think I'd find it rather amusing to have those kind of cyborg abilities, but only if I could absolutely trust those who programmed the datacore not to do anything...tricky...like have a key word that will melt my brain, or something. Besides, with all kinds of databases easily accessible to me at all times, I wouldn't have to pay thousands of dollars for a fancy schmancy college education, would I? Of course, let's temporarily neglect the amazing cost of wedding me in the first place, k?

Have you been listening? When you are wedded, they do not control you: You control them.

Maybe you didn't notice what happened to Morn. She only had one Zone Implant.

OTOH if being wedded means getting yet another mother-in-law, then thanks no... :-D
