Hugo Weaving: Luckiest actor alive?

Isn't actor Hugo Weaving a great example of the adage that timing and luck is everything? First he lands the role of Agent Smith in The Matrix, the most outstanding sci-fi film of its time. Then he lands the role of King Elrond in LOTR, surely the most outstanding fantasy film epic since...um...the original King Kong??

So what do you all think of Mr. Weaving?

Was he better as Smith or Elrond?

Smith, without a doubt, he just had so much class. :D

He was great as Smith, without a doubt. Anyone could've played Elrond.

Smith....easily.

Weaving would also make a decent Covenant, IMO. Covenant could not be played by a hunk, a la Reeves or Mortensen.... would need a older, less pysical a presence.

I think so too... he can't be a hunk... but neither can he be Weaving... but I could be wrong... :?

He'd probably make a good Lord Foul too.

Who, me? :wink:

You know, I never really thought about Weaving as Covenant. Sure, why not? He's as good a candidate as anyone else we've mentioned. :)

All the better to make him covenant! Perhaps a dual role? They are linked in near symbiosis.

Not that insane at all my firend....why NOT make them appear not the same....but similar? Foul is more of an entity, but they are both bound by the white gold....

Gunslinger, now I see the connection between The Matrix and The Chronicles:

Matrix-->Smith-->(Weaving)-->Elrond-->LOTR-->(Tolkien)-->fantasy-->(Donaldson)-->TCTC...

...Covenant/Foul-->(Weaving)? 8O
