Thomas vs the Sandgorgon

A few of my favorite scenes in the Second Chronicles of Thomas Covenant was any that featured Nom the Sandgorgon. Talk about intense! I hope he appears in the Last Chronicles of TC myself.

Anyway, I wanted to get some readers' opinions on my cartoonist's take on the scene from The One Tree where Thomas wrestles with the Sandgorgon:

By the way, I'm not trying to be pretentious or do the shameless plug here, but if it seems that way, I do apologize. I just like sharing stuff that goes through my head with fellow readers. I figured it'd be fun. :)

I like it!

Personally, I like to see any person's interpretations of scenes from The Books - even (and sometimes especially) if they don't match up with what I have pictured in my own head. Others pick up on character details that I never focussed on before, and it makes me say, "oh, yeah - I remember that." :-)

For years I always had Vain pictured as more ur-vile than human. It never really said in the book whether he was closer to man or beast, so I assumed that the ur-viles would create something more in their own image. But the more often I read the books, the more I got it into my head that he was more in the shape of a man. And then I saw the artists interpretation of the cast of characters standing in front of Revelstone (I think it's posted in the gallery somewhere), and Vain is clearly depicted as a man and not one bit (other than the absolute black color) ur-vile. Now that picture seems so right to me, that I can't imagine him anymore as "created by the ur-viles in their image".
Spoiler
I think the scene in White Gold Wielder where Covenant summons Nom is one of the most dramatic and powerful in the books. I still think Lord Mhoram's Victory blows everything away, but the last lines of that WGW chapter - "... the name of a sandgorgon. 'Nom.'" always send shivers up my spine. Ooh! There they go again! Weeeeeee!!!

I liked it... I suggest you re-read the chapters 16 and 19 for SRD's description of the sandgorgons..
I'd like your take on urviles, wayhyms, cave-wrights and the other nasties ... grins

Good job there Dutch...

Lol Romeo. Just reading you mention it does it to me. And I mean that in a purely non-sexual way. Lol.

Thanks, folks, for the commentary.

If I remember correctly, as I was drawing Nom (GASP! I said it! HIDE!) I was referring to The One Tree very scrutinizingly (is that also a word??) for the description. If you're referring to the slight incorrect way TC is holding onto the sandgorgon, I took a liberty there and flipped him around as I thought it would look better if he was holding him from behind.
I tell ya, drawing critters with back-bent legs is a pain in the dairy-aire. And yeah, I do intend to draw some Waynhim and Ur-viles and the like.

By the way, does anyone know if SRD's going to be doing any book-signing tours?

His publishers are planning a book tour for him. There's a place on the "from the author" page of the official site where he'll post the dates and places when he gets them.
