I see alot of "dont have expecations" and "unnessesary" talk around here and what the heck? I didn’t reread the books, and I suggest that you don’t since there is so much rereferencing, but don’t at all tone down your expectations! Runes is the foundation novel for The Last Chronicles, but taking that into consideration, besides for the prologue (first 200ish pages) being a bit slow and the fact that it ends it’s amazing.

I also prefer to wait. But it's good to hear that at least one person confirms that my faith in the author is justified. 8)

Sounds like we need that new forum sooner rather than later. :-) But how many people could wait for four months without peeking at what the few with advanced reading copies were saying...

I'll ask him at Elohimfest. Until this thread showed up, I didn't know that there were any advanced copies available yet. I know Steve (as he said in his one Gradual Interview answer) has been waiting for the publishers to send him the print draft (not sure if that's the correct term) of Runes for his final review. Plus a ton of other things that will keep him more than occupied. I assume he *just* received some or all of this himself, since he answered a ton of questions the other day and there hasn't been a peep from him since. And I'm not sure how distro for the advance copies works - I don't know if he'll have a crate of them from the start, or if there's just the one for him to review until he requests more. I'd rather wait for the Fest to ask.

Makes sense, thank you, Romeo. Distribution comes mostly from publishers, but some authors choose to take a hand in getting their books out for review.

Technically my copy of Runes is a "Uncorrected Manuscrit for limited distribution." So that might be the level before ARC, it says on the first page "In quoting from this book for reveiws or any other purpose, please refer to the final printed book, as the author may make changes on these proofs before the book goes to press." So basically it means im lucky and get to see what words SRD spelled wrong.

Sorry about spoiling anything, I didnt mean to put out any spoilers,

Esmer just need mention because... uhhh... Esmer rocks my socks

:-)

That copy is probably from the "submitted and approved" manuscript that's mentioned on the News page of the official site. He has since reviewed that and sent his changes to the publishers, and he's now waiting on the final print draft for his last review. (which I'm guessing that he's now received, based on how quiet the Gradual Interview has been the past couple of days)

It's for sale on ebay. Is it even legal to sell something like this, meant for limited distribution, on ebay like that? :o

ARC? I didn't know anything like that existed!

I'm with MM, I can wait a few more months - but please in the future if anything about Runes is posted cover it with the spoiler.

It's definitely not, duchess. It's a form of piracy, because neither the publisher nor the author makes any money off the sale of the book. Even ARC's aren't legally saleable; most are marked with "Advance copy - Not for resale" on the jackets. Of course, that doesn't stop people from buying or selling them.

I think it's one thing to buy an ARC of a book that's been out for a million years and both has done and will continue to do its author proud,* and another to sell the unedited manuscript review copies before the book comes out. For one thing, you aren't getting an authorized version of the manuscript--and I mean author-ized. It probably isn't as polished as the author would like, it'll have typos, etc. For another, you're totally ripping off the author and the publisher before the book has a chance to earn for itself.

I don't blame anyone for buying it, cause who could help themselves? But I do blame the sellers. I really really hope that the person who's selling the unedited review mss online doesn't actually work for the publisher, because they'll get fired for ethical misconduct faster than you can say "intellectual property rights."

*yes, I've done this--I very naughtily bought an ARC of MOHD last month, but can you blame me?But I've also bought the book three times in paperback (twice new, once used). So there. :P
