Cover Art for U.S. Edition of Runes

Post by Mr. Land »

Didn't see this topic already posted so I went ahead.

So, what do we think of Whelan's work on Runes? I find it breathtakingly beautiful! My only minor concern is the rather large white poodle-like creature. What IS that?

Lets thank our lucky stars that Michael is doing all FOUR covers.
Something there is in beauty.

I agree, the cover is outstanding! I don't yet understand the significance of it, but I know I will soon!

It's awesome!!! :D

And I thought that was a Ranyhyn...but I didn't see a big picture of it either...
And I believe in you
altho you never asked me too
I will remember you
and what life put you thru.

...for then I could fly away and be at rest. Sweet rest, Mom. We all love and miss you.

The covers for England have have only one syllable words, and usually have assorted crayons attached.

Sorry, Darth - I couldn't resist. :D

The British cover for 'Runes of the Earth' is very disappointing. Not a patch on the American one.
I found the Del Rey covers for the earlier Covenant books far better than the British ones.

LOL! I was thinking that exactly, Mr. Land! :)

On the whole, I think Whelan's cover is okay. It's just that it looks like such a steadfastly typical and traditional fantasy cover. (Gets flayed alive by Whelan fans)

I still prefer the austere, simple design of the U.K. edition. (Unless they've changed it!)

That's no giant POODLE! It's a Ranyhyn!!! Look closely!

If it's white, how can they tell it's got that white mark on its forehead?

I think it's a cross between a poodle and a Ranyhyn - maybe caused by residual sunbane. Horse-ish in appearance, but with short curly hair and a "holier than thou" attitude. And the small ones yip alot and bite at your ankles.

:-)
And then the ravens pecked out his eyes.
