Not to sound rude, but I feel Spock should have remained dead. Why risk diluting the emotional power of his personal sacrifice in ST II by bringing him back in the very next film?

(If they're going to toy with the characters this way, then I might as well demand that they resurrect Kirk so he can go out with a bang, not with that whimper of a death in ST: Generations.)

Fortunately, the outstanding quality of ST III and ST IV helped to mitigate my disappointment over Spock.

This whole issue is probably water under the bridge for Trek fans by now, but darn it, it's the principle of the thing! Should major characters (who cares about the security red shirts?) who die be brought back to life just like that? Does this damage their credibility for the audience?

Matrixman, you took the electronic words right out of my cyber-mouth. I think Spock's death-scene was superb, as was the aftermath in Wrath of Khan, and probably should have been the end.

However, since I am such a huge fan of Star Trek IV, and can't imagine it without Spock, I have to ultimately be happy that he was resurrected. Even though, in purely objective terms, it was a mistake.

Does that make sense?

Well, it did to me.

The one saving grace in this situation its that if the powers that be had offed Spock in an unsatisfactory way, then through the wonder of science fiction there would be a possibility to off said hero again with a more class. Spock's death was among the best in film history and would have been a fitting end to such a legendry sci fi icon. Alas the film producers chose the Genesis storyline and Ka boom we got Spock once more. I too am grateful for Spock's continued presence in the films following Khan but I would have been cheery with his fate as it stood. One can only hope that the insufferable way Kirk finally died might still have some hope of being rectified. Not bloodly likely though.

Typical Marvel Comics crap!!! They had a great character, they give him a great death, and then they chicken out!!!! Buncha spineless morons!!!

*sigh* Well, I really like the 2-part Unification story (as I sometimes enjoy a story or two of various resurrected superheroes), so I guess it's not entirely bad. But I'd rather have the death stand, and move on.

Not me. If they had killed Spock off, I would have thrown Star Trek against the wall, lock, stock, and barrel.

Well I agree that when I first saw STII in the theaters there was not a dry eye amongst the easily identifiable trekkies there.
But ya know guys... nobody said you HAD to keep watching the continuation of the series (films) after STII ya know.

But agreed (again) that STIV wouldn't been the same without that pointy eared hobgoblin.

Yeah - bringing him back cheapened his sacrifice in ST2.
