Guess we all have a slight idea where Vain and Lord Mhoram and so on got their names from - but why did you pick these names in particular? And as for those of you whose names aren't from Donaldson's stories, where are they from, what do they mean, why did you pick them?

Sevothtarte is a character from a manga (japanese comic) called Angel Sanctuary. He an angel, a vile dictator puppet-mastering the underage ruler of heaven (another angel, not God ). He's the kind of villain you just have to like because he's so cool and such a perfect a**hole...
Well, that's at first glance. Beneath it, he is a very sad character, not the real Sevothtarte at all but someone else who suffered so much (rape among other things) he didn't want to exist anymore and was granted (if one could give it such a nice name) to become a different person, without any memory of who he really is... I like him, seriously.
There's supposed to be a real angel called Sevothtarte in myth, and I've spend a lot of time trying to find out more about him, but so far I've only found a mention of "the most great Arch-Seraph Sevothtarta" in a short story. Apparently there are many ways of spelling the name, which doesn't make it easier.

Now it's your turn.

Sylvanus is the latin name for Pan (or Faunus to the Romans, I believe). Sylvan also means "of the woods," and I consider myself a woodsy kinda guy (like a Forestal... which strangely enough, the base housing area where I live is called Forrestal Village).

Most other places I go by UnbelieverDjak. Unbeliever because of, well... and Djak because that's my nickname.

I chose Vain because after more than a 15 year gap between reads, Vain was the one character that stuck. And the nick was available .

The other nicks I would have considered would be Severian from the Shadow of the Torturer etc and Steerpike from Mervyn Peake's "Gormenghast" - although Gormenghast itself is one of the more compelling places ever conjured up

Danlo the wild! Main character in A Requiem for Homo Sapiens, the 3 books that follow Neverness by David Zindell. Lightship Pilot and practitioner of the way of Ahimsa. Almost took the name Baradakas here, but didn't, and no 1 esle has, yet... (Now they have! )

I picked Damelon because he was the old lord associated with the Giants, and that he was the son of Berek. I didn't use "Giantfriend" since Michael Giantfriend is one of the senior posters.

Well, Fist and Faith is, as you all remember (don't break my heart and tell me you don't ), something the Bloodguard said a few times. I guess I'd call it their battle cry. But I'd say it's more their creed, the way they define themselves. [It could be for all <I>Haruchai</I>, but SRD never actually says. Personally, I think it is.] Fist and faith - the only things they need to accomplish whatever they decide to do.

To expand (which I tend to do)-
When describing <I>ak-Haru Kenaustin Ardenol</I>, Brinn says,

He has mastered all skill and prowess that we desire, all restraint and calm, and has become perfection. Passion and mastery like unto the poised grandeur of mountains.

Fist/skill and prowess/passion go together. They develop their martial arts to perfection because they are such emotional beings. This is how they express their passions. (Of course, they express their emotions in other, non-physical ways too. Like taking the Vow.)

Faith/restraint and calm/mastery go together. Their faith in themselves allows them to keep their intense feeling under control, and express them when and how they think appropriate. They are masters of themselves.

And further, the fist and faith are circular. Do they have faith in themselves because of their supreme ability? Or does their absolute faith make their incredible abilities (Brinn's ability to take such punishment in his fight, not needing stone for the protection from the Sunbane) possible? The answer is both.

And that's why I called myself Fist and Faith. lol

I call myself Drool Stupidhead because that's what I think Drool is. A Stupidhead.

We chose our names because these Giants are:

- married (like we are - Jan. 2 was our anniversary, again!)
- important members of the ship's crew
- strong in character, very brave and resourceful (which we admire)
- in IT together

- Seasauce

Well, my name was the Giants name for Lord Foul, Satansheart and Soulcrusher.

Just liked it. Spent a good hour trying to think of a fitting name for me and I didn't wanna be too corny and pick a real common name, rather liked Kinslaughterer too but I guess Satansheart just fitted my thinking at that moment and so that's that I guess. Dumbass Brit eh Skywier?

My first name is Kevin.

Hee... I got my name from my friends. I was always reading the books at school and then they just started calling me the leper fairy. So whenever we write notes and such to eachother that's how I sign mine. They have names like that too, but there's aren't related to the books, one is Thy Beryl Snorkler which is an anagram for her name...etc... Once we were talking to my friend's brother on MSN, kind of messing with his head through my alternate e-mail account and I just put *Poink* over and over and my other friends were like "Hey Will! You got blessed by the leper fairy!" *poink* So that's where I got my quote too... One of my friend's has taken to calling me Clairey Fairy... She always yells it down the halls at me (she is extremely loud! ) Haha.

Navarino comes from the Bay of Navarino, off Pylos in the Peloponnese of southern Greece. It was the site of a decisive naval battle in 1827, when a combined British, French and Russian fleet destroyed an Egyptian and Turkish fleet which outgunned them considerably. The Battle of Navarino Bay is widely considered to be the last great battle fought by wooden sailing ships, and allowed Greece to be freed from the Ottoman empire.

More recently, it was the site of an oil spill, and was also the unofficial name of the HM Coastguard patrol boat that I served on.

Oops, that last one is mine. I suppose that's pretty obvious though. Guess I must have timed out.

Bannor was my favourite Bloodguard too. I really liked it when Covenant confronted him about the Power of Command.

Several years ago, my then-girlfriend got me to try Middle Eastern Dancing. I liked it. The name "Zahir" is my dance name. It is Turkish and means "The Blooming Flower." On the net, I often add the patronym "al-Daoud" (i.e. "Son of David").

I picked aliantha because it's one of the things I liked best about the Land -- the idea that no matter where you go, you'll never go hungry. Plus it sorta sounds like a girl's name....

I also considered Andelain because it's my favorite place of anywhere in the Land.
