Jeopardy

Ok, I thought this guy deserves a thread. Has anybody besides me been watching this guy, Ken Jennings I think his name is? He's a machine. 30-some odd days, a million and change in winnings.
In these days of Jeopardy doubling its points and halving the difficulty (with until now, still rather poor performance), this guy is giving me a reason to watch the show again (really, Alex, stop with the jokes... it's why there are such things as "writers." Please continue just being your old condescending self).

He looks like he's good at calligraphy, too! What a guy!
I'll watch next time it's on. Heck, if he stays this good and there's no more five-show rule, this could go on for years!

hell no, he looks exactly like my brother-in-law. It is uncanny. Naaasty.

He looks like a friend of mine from high school, Greg Platt. Also mormon. Unlike Greg, this guy could take my unofficial crown of King of Useless Knowledge any day, though.
He won again, btw. I seriously don't see this guy being beat by anybody... maybe they should bring the blind guy back (and man, I feel bad that I can't remember his name or anything, but still)

What is Ken LDS?

It's probably rigged, like the "Quiz Show" scandal of years ago.

Since when did they stop with the 5 wins rule?

I thought the most interesting champion was Eddie, the blind guy, a few seasons back.

Syl, can you prove the questions are easier than they were when I was like a kid? I compare my knowledge of the topics to my knowledge of when I was much younger, and that's a comparison that does not make any sense, nor really have any meaning.

Of course I can't prove it, but it appears to be a common sentiment. Gone are categories like "Biology" or "The 17th Century." Now all the categories are clever or hip (heavy on the sarcasm). And I know this is a strange thing to say for a quiz show, but the answers seem much more trivial. There's a lot more pop culture questions. Every first answer in the category is a no-brainer, and most of the doubles and even final jeopardy are of, at most, middling difficulty.
I wish I could say I was just getting smarter, but I really haven't increased my knowledge base much since high school with the exception of the middle east, electronics, and current events.
I have the TV set to watch the older episodes on the Game Show Network, so I'll give a final verdict in about an hour. Don't get me wrong, it's still the best (extant) gameshow on TV, but I think it's been queered by the advent of Millionaire and even Ben Stein's Money.

I really love Jeopardy, I even have it on my computer

Ken is fricken awesome! I just feel bad for everyone who has to play against him.

Update: Jennings is still on and about to pass the 2.5 million mark...about 3 weeks ago, before the College Championship, he set the world's record for most money ever won on TV.

Someone almost beat him the other day it took Final Jeopardy to eek it out. I don't think it's rigged, but then again it is CBS, home of Dan (creator of Bush's bogus draftdodging facilitator) Rather...hmmm

I used to love Jeopardy ... but gave up for a few years for the reasons Caer Sylvanus pointed out earlier, but I have tried to watch as many episodes with Ken Jennings.
He is indeed a machine.
At this point, I'm not longer watching to see if he wins, but to see how he writes his name on the contestant's podium. I noticed soon after the first week that he signs his name differently every single show ... perhaps he figured he'd be there for a good, long while and decided to make it interesting for himself.
I wonder if Alex Trebek is getting bored or angry with this Jennings?

After 74 appearances and winning $2,555,000+, today was the day Ken Jennings lost on Jeopardy.
And BTW, FWIW Win Ben Stein's money was a great show.

Another Quiz Show scandal maybe?

I doubt it--I think the show may have paid him off to quit to stimulate interest-and stop bankrupting them...
