Old Thomas Covenant video game

In high school, we had terrible clunky old computers that were good for little beyond word processing and intro programming classes. However, there were a handful of (mostly educational) games that you could run if you knew how to get past the rudimentary security system the computing teacher had in place. One of them was a curious game called simply "The Land." I tried it a few times, but never got the hang of it, and eventually moved on to something else.

A few years later, I came across the Covenant series. Though I thought they were an excellent read, it wasn't until a few days ago when a friend pointed me to a video game archive site that I remembered the game, and finally put two and two together. Sure enough, this simple little freeware game from fifteen years ago is archived (and can be found here: www.the-underdogs.org/game.php?gameid=3120). It's sort of clunky, especially in light of where video games have gone in the past few decades, but I thought there might be someone here who might get a kick out of this.

(I also figured I could pester people for some hints, since it's been long enough since I read the books that I no longer have a clue where to start looking for Kevin's Wards, which seems to be the main point of the game.)

YaaN, welcome to Kevins Watch. Be welcome and true here. :D

Also, they only actually find three of the Wards in the whole six books, and we only actually see one of those get found (the Second Ward in the catacombs beneath Mount Thunder) so I'm not sure how much help we could be.

Sum sui generis

Turns out you can get directions to the first just by asking around, but that was as far as I'd gotten, so you've already given me my first hint! 8)

This has also proven to be the spur I needed to go ahead and buy the books, so I'll be catching up on my own, too.

Yeah i would like to play it too

Also, does anyone remember the old hobbit game that was probably on a similar format? If anyone has a link to that it'd be sweet, Thanks.

Don't have a link, but I do remember it - I had a copy for my Sinclair Spectrum.

Underdogs is a great freeware database, definitely one of the best on the net. I found Rrootage, maybe the best boss SHMUP I've ever played, on there.

www.the-underdogs.info/game.php?gameid=3120

It looks like my link is the same as his, but mine seems to work and his doesn't. Underdogs had a short shutdown at some point IIRC, so that might be the reason.

If the link isn't working, search "underdogs" in google. From there, type in Land in the game title search bar, and you should get to it.

Going by the screenshot, it's a nethack or rogue inspired project. Both are good games, though I don't expect huge things from this.

as regards the TC game, how do you actually attack something in it?

At the moment I am surviving about 2 attacks before dying.

Any help would be appreciated.
